Things you wish you could say

I charge $3 a pound for my meat birds and turkeys. I could sell twice what I produce, yet I always have people tell me they would like a few birds from my next batch. How much do you charge is always the next question. When I tell them $3 I often here "Wow, I can get them at the supermarket for half that.

I don't have a problem telling them that they are better off buying them at the store, so that they can get what they're paying for.

Most just don't get it.

Ditto. I just found out Im not allowed to charge or barter for my eggs. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ oh well.
I can charge for them. I don't because when you charge for them, you have to provide them when the customer wants them. I give them away and the people that are getting them understand that they have to come get them and they need to do it when I say the eggs are ready.

I don't find that to always be true. The few customers I have are very understanding about if I have a little less that week or need them to meet me somewhere. They understand my backyard is not a factory and demand is met accordingly. Only when presenting as a business, IMO, does one need to feel the pressure of having consistent supply. My people are happy to get my surplus, and don't expect it to be consistent all the time. I'm also not trying to make a profit. Just put a dent in chicken feed.

The person leaving the grocery cart in the middle of the aisle. Yeah, and they are also 10 feet away gazing at the shelving.

The woman who leaves her purse in the little kid seat in the cart, then wanders away to look at different cans of soup and read the ingredients. I want to say, "Ma'am, I could have your purse and be around the corner before you would notice."
