If asked my mother it's pronounced: "Amer-roo-a-cana."

But it's like: "Amera-cana."

Probably could have found a better way to type the pronunciation, but that's the best I can do.

There are some people who criticize other peoples' spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Who has not accidently sent out a text or email with a typo. I recall one comment along the lines of, "looks like they didn't even pass grade 2". Hey, maybe they didn't.

Are they able to communicate their message so that it is understood? That might have to be good enough.

I was a literacy coach for adults and children for many years. Have some sympathy for why they are not using "The Queen's English". You have no idea what their background is.

My favourite (yes correct Canadian spelling) student is a 25 year old man. He is a gifted mechanic but couldn't hold down a job because he could not read the labels on the parts boxes. I wish that I thought I was a brave as he to admit he had a problem, and reached out for help.

So instead of spending time looking for mistakes, how be you spend that time finding a local organization looking for volunteers.

Agreed. I don't think anybody was trying to offend anyone here. Some people have said they do know proper grammar, just feel like unless you're writing a work email or something where they see it to really matter, and the rest of the time say they don't care about grammar. I think most of the time, a couple mistakes are fine (I know I make plenty), but when it becomes illegible and you've said you're doing it on purpose, it can be annoying.

Let's not forget the amazing contributions of spell- checker, which on this very site once turned "I put her on medicated feed" to "I put heroin medicated feed", and regularly changes my Nankins into "Mankind".
