Things you wish you could say

I wish I could tell people that posting on a public forum can result in responses that you don't agree with, or even dislike - but you DO NOT get to tell people what they can or cannot answer in response to your thread. You do not OWN the thread; the owners of the website DO. So as long as responses are within the website's Terms of Use, they are likely to remain. So take the responses you like, and ignore the rest. If you want a place to air your thoughts and questions in which you get to control the responses, then go start a blog somewhere. This ain't it.

I see this happening most often when someone posts about a situation that's potentially rife with problems, but they only want answers that support their specific question or viewpoint. It's like asking how many stitches they need if they perform their own appendectomy, but refusing to consider advice to go to a hospital instead.
