Things you wish you could say

Wouldn't they just flatten out and/or run around in circles, screaming, "Hawk alert! Hide! Hide! We're all gonna diiiiieee!"? And what if the rooster tries to kill it?
Mine didn't care about it when they realized I was the one with it. That toy drone was real loud.

My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

  1. kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of.
"the project would decimate the fragile wetland wilderness"

  2. HISTORICAL
kill one in every ten of (a group of soldiers or others) as a punishment for the whole group.
"the man who is to determine whether it be necessary to decimate a large body of mutineers"

Decimated has changed meanings. :hmmThose who actually know the historical use can get a laugh when people use it in the common meaning now. When someone says, "Almost decimated," I ask, "Oh, you mean, reduced by an eleventh?"

Wish I could say:

I really appreciate your willingness to help me herd chickens. I do. But. You're so flippin' bad at it. I get them almost to where I want them to go and then you jump in front of them and send them all fluttering back the way we just came. It wouldn't be so bad if you would just LISTEN and take direction, and STOP when I say stop, or back up when I tell you to. Trust me, I know what I'm doing, and I know what these birds are going to do before they do.
this! I try to have this conversation with my mom, but i'm younger so I don't have any clue how to do it, even though I have kept chickens three times longer than she has, plus the one she kept was a house chicken

Well obviously you'll have to be more diplomatic than what I wrote, lol! What finally helped the other night was when I told my helper not to get in front of them, and to stay behind me. I said when he gets in front of them, they panic and run back toward the gate I'm trying to move them AWAY from. He also tends to creep closer and closer to them, which also panics them, so I need him to stay back.

Sigh. He means well but he's not very patient with them. You just can't hurry them.

kind of does in my house... I can't be firm with her. She just won't listen :/
She is more likely to listen if you are respectful and acknowledge her willingness to help and your appreciation for it. But then explain that you need her to let you take the lead since the chickens trust you and you know how to communicate with them. See if you can get her to agree to be your helper so you can show her "what you can do," with her help, of course. Parents often can't believe their kids are growing up and have developed skills they're not aware of. They think their kids still need their help when they don't. Kids sometimes have to say, "Look Mom, give me a chance to show you what I can do." But you don't want to do it in a way that says, Mom, you're a useless idiot and who needs you anyway. ;)
