Things you wish you could say

The best one for me was when a plug was pulled out in a drivers smoking cabin (portacabin) which cut all the power in the sales department which ran off an extension lead. There were twenty pcs in the sales portacabin.

Fire risk … Noooo 😳
Umm...Uhhh... I wish I could say the outlet on the other side of my "office" wasn't inaccessible. *looks at extension cord running out of power strip that powers extra setup on other side of the room*.

Omg that brings back memories.
Funny how I remember those so well but … what did I have for diner last night ? πŸ€ͺ
My first computer started with 128K of RAM and a 5 1/4" floppy drive. No hard drive. I upgraded that thing to 648K of RAM and TWO 5 1/4" floppy drives. I even added a modem to it!

No, but I have checked uptime on a system to know that a user was lying about having rebooted before calling.

One of my best calls was someone whose monitor said, "No signal". I asked them if the computer was turned on, they said, "Yes."

Me - Can you check to make sure the cables are plugged firmly in to both the monitor and the computer?
User - They are plugged in
Me - can you double check both ends of the cables, both to the monitor AND the computer?
User - what do you mean?
Me - check to make sure that the cables are plugged into the monitor, and to the box under your desk.
User - There is no box under my desk.

There was no computer at the desk they were using. Just a monitor.
I have a monitor story:

Once upon a time, I found a widescreen Dell monitor in my parent's closet. I wanted it. I got it. I plugged it into my computer using the normal old DVI cable (or VGA, but I think I used DVI), and tried turning the monitor on. Nothing. Turned the computer on. Nope. Asked Dad. Turns out that I thought that monitors received power through their display connection and I was wrong about that, and needed a plug.

That makes a Pentium M with 2GB of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce Go something or another sound like a luxury.

(That was the computer my Dad gave me. That and the Shuttle SK43G I have.)

My first computer was a Sinclair Spectrum 16k

It was plugged into a tv and cassette tape recorder. It took three months to enter the program to make a ball go across the screen πŸ₯±

My first laptop. Sony VAIO VGN-S380P. I still really like the design of this thing over my ThinkPad. My issues with it were the keyboard, small trackpad, and lack of SD card slot. Oh, and by the time I was using it (2017, maybe 2018) it was old and slow. I still blame that laptop and the Shuttle for being the reason I have this massive PC collection.

I remember those. I had a Commodore 16 once upon a time. Similar, but without the cassette tape recorder. It hat 16K of RAM. I made a random number generator.

I actually got that one AFTER I got the Tandy 1000 that was my first computer.

Wow you managed to produce something from your commodore … my Sinclair made a good doorstop until the dog chewed it πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
