Things you wish you could say

I know KC has several but I can't think of any town anywheres close that is more then a one track town.
Huh. Today I learned. I didn't know there were lines with only one set of track unless they were private (like a coal line or something)

Neat.

I've lived close to tracks a few times. Always one set.
I know where tracks run through many towns around here. Only one set.
I still can't remember where there's been two. Now I'm very curious. How do we get things going two directions? Is there just that few trains running or nothing goes away from KC to my side of the world? Things seem really odd now.

🤔 Now I really can't recall a train going but the one direction. I am freaking out.

There are side tracks where trains pass each other to go in opposite directions, they’re never “in town” so you wouldn’t see them unless you’re in a large city.

Grew up in a very small town in NJ, freaked me out to see trains go in opposite directions on one track so my Dad drove me to the place where they sidelined the trains to pass each other. Pretty cool actually

Looking at a rail plan doc the Missouri DOT has online, there's a lot of single track down your way. KC and St. Louis have more dual line of course, but most of the rest of the state is all single track.

There's a train station about a mile away from me. That's where they switch off so they can go different directions. I'm pretty sure that's also why the train will sit for so long. It's probably waiting for another train to clear the way so it can go.
