Things you wish you could say

My brother was a smoke jumper most of his adult life. Thanks to your son, his crew, and all fire fighters for the very important and critical work they do! :hugs and ❤️🙏❤️
My nephew is an EMT and Fire Fighter in FL, I agree that it is an essential job many folks take for granted

<whine>Can I go to bed now? I didn't get to sleep until after midnight due to barking dogs, then was woken up at 2:30 by the neighbour's chickens screaming. I finally fell asleep around 4, only to be up by 5:30.</whine>
Do it! I’ll join you here in solidarity!!

On the positive side, I rescued the neighbour's surviving chickens (they're guesting at my place until their owners come back at the end of the week to keep them safe from the raccoons), got a lot of progress done on the new chicken coop (I'm painting. A master carpenter is doing the real work), and I've been pretty busy all day.

Yikes! It sounds like those chickens did have a real reason to be screaming! (From your previous post, I had assumed the chickens were just screaming for a reason that people consider unimportant in the middle of the night.)

Oh, no. They were screaming because of raccoons. One was traumatized enough to wake up every 30-40 minutes after the attack to start screaming again. I happen to have this neighbour's number, so I texted her when I first heard the screaming. I found out in the morning that she's out of town for the rest of the week.

I feel bad because one of her survivors seems to have gotten out of my yard. She's one of those tiny ones that looks like they're wearing a crazy wig. I looked for her but couldn't find her. Her silkie had me chasing her around the chicken yard for over an hour to get her cooped. The others were much more cooperative.

Do you have a chicken catching fish net? Box store should have a couple.

The smaller crab nets with 6’ handles work for quail.

Highly recommend nets cause I’m not fast enough to hand catch chickens.

I had a butterfly net that I use for quail. Little silkie ripped right through it. I'm going to have to buy a new one. I was thinking of looking for a finer mesh fish net.

It turns out that frizzle head wasn't missing after all. I opened the coop this morning, and she trooped right out with the rest of them. She must have already been in the coop when I rounded the rest up, but I swear I looked in there for her.
