Many places are still understaffed unfortunately for a variety of reasons and because of that the employees that are there are very busy, it stinks (and there are indeed bad apples who aren't doing what they're supposed to) but do be patient with the store workers

Speaking from my experiences lately behind the counter, I can honestly say that almost all retail stores, especially the small ones, are VERY understaffed and overworked. I've been working at the local dollar store the past month (as a temporary job) and it is insane just how overworked everyone is. Customers that are rude, entitled and incondsiderate just make things that much harder. People, when you go shopping please be considerate of the underpaid overworked folks who are there to do their jobs that you aren't always aware of!

I do my best to be the customer that store employees like to see. What does it cost me? Nothing at all. What do I get out of it? You know the smile that lights up someone's face when they're happy to see you? I get a few of those.

I've been behind the counter in a few retail situations in my working life. The PITA customers got good service. The really nice customers? I bent the rules for them and went out of my way to make sure their order was exactly how they wanted it.

Suffice it to say that I even get hugs from cashiers. They initiate the hugs.

Last year, our ceo got up and told Newsweek or someone like that (more or less) that 'at any given time, there are eight employees on the floor'.

Oh really? My man, you can't even give us a budget to keep us at the bare minimum of 3 people per shift.
