Nowadays you can just get the weather on your phone. If he wants to watch the news I'd either go take a walk or go and see what the chickens are up to (or catch up on some random chores). Failing that, earbuds and a good audiobook (you can find some some on yt especially older books) can keep you from hearing the tv. Being informed is not worth the price of your sanity
