Things you wish you could say

I didn't think you were supposed to nap when you've hit your head?
Hope it's not too bad.

I wouldn't take a nap, that's not a good idea after a head injury. Hope you get better soon! I got whacked by a huge 2x4 years ago and literally saw stars. I had quite a concussion, hope you don't have one!

My understanding is that napping is not itself a problem.
The main problem is if you slip into a coma and no-one notices.
If you are awake, it's obvious that you are not in a coma. If you are asleep, it's not so obvious.

So if there is a responsible person available, it's fine for the person with a head injury to sleep. The responsible person can check at intervals, and wake up the injured person if there's any doubt. If they can wake up, they are still fine. If they cannot wake up, it's time for that responsible person to call the hospital or take other appropriate action.

If there is no responsible person available (injured person is alone), then it is probably better to just go to the hospital or emergency room. If they reach the point of needing help, regardless of whether they tried to stay awake or not, they may not be able to get that help. (Symptoms of problems can include confusion and blurred vision, along with coma, and any of those would make it hard to recognize a need for help, and hard to get that help. This is not a complete list of symptoms, just a few to illustrate the point.)

Either way, I don't think that trying to stay awake will help much.

Of course there's the other important detail, that a person can't be napping and going to the doctor at the same time. So if it is important to get medical attention, that should happen first.

@NatJ gives good advice, but if @RoyalChick is lying down already she won't see it. And if she's alone she probably shouldn't try to drive. Hey, RC, when you see this, let us know you are okay. Please.
Thanks all for your concern. I am very touched.
I am pretty sure I didn’t lose consciousness though it was hard enough to knock me back and I did see stars.
I walked the quarter mile back without incident and just have a very tender spot on my head.
I did lie down and napped for a few minutes and now I am up and feeling much better.
I suspect I will have a big bruise.
If headache gets worse I will alert someone nearby to come check on me if I don’t check in with them.

And I feel like this story might make someone laugh, so here goes:
A couple years ago, I was trying to patch up a bike tube. This was on an old tire.

Well, I had patched the tube, so I stuck it back in the tire. It was inflating just fine, and...

Uh-oh.

A bulge had formed. The tube was sticking out of the tire.

I scrambled to grab a tire-valve-deflaty-thingy.

Before I could though, the tube gave out and made a loud "ka-BAM" noise, right in my ear.

I was fine, but I saw a few stars, and what's more, I heard stars. Actually heard them, right in my ear. My ear hurt for a bit after, but thankfully nothing hit me.

Good grief! I hope you told your parents so they could keep an eye on you!

This is a thread to vent in. No names, no identifying information.

For example,
"If you don't want to be called lazy, try not being lazy."

Edit to add a couple more rules. Remember that we're in a public forum, so let's keep sensitive topics out of this thread. No politics, no religion, etc.
Take a hike.

Thats fixes most things.

They knew. This was years ago. The only real side effect I think it may have had is potentially making my already-not-fantastic hearing a bit worse.

Stars sound weird. I don't recommend it.

One of my young horses swung her head up and cracked me in the head causing stars - very sparkly stars.

After that I put a ‘tie-down’ on her bridle so she could swing her head up.

Wish I could say I sold the so-and-so long ago….. but alas the old cow still resides here 20 years on. She’s 23 now.

She’s the grey (white) mare. The bay is 24.

Useless nags both. Haven’t done a lick of work in months…..

But she's pretty. Doesn't that count for something?

Oh yes she’s a beauty, and she knows it. She also a cantankerous, temperamental twit. She has health issues so has to be kept in at night, she falls over and if she can’t get up in the mud or snow then she would be in a bad way. In the stall I can see her at least at night if she needs help.

She’s full of arthritis, she and I need to take our Celebrex hahaha.

Basically she and the other mare are lawn ornaments. Like half the older chooks I have too hahaha.

I feel like I should call this place Senior Acres….
