My hometown is a tiny little town called Saxonburg, Pennsylvania.

We're famous for John Roebling, the inventor of wire rope, which made the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge possible.

Also, Saxonburg Bologna, which is just famous around here, but still very good stuff.

I live about 30 miles away from Saxonburg now, near East Brady, PA, which is the hometown of a pro football hall of famer named Jim Kelly. We have a river, and a scenic outlook, and well, that's about it, LOL.


We're about the same distance from Clarion, which is famous (I guess) for it's Autumn Leaf Festival every year. Our doublewide was constructed there, so I think it's pretty cool, LOL...

I am just a few miles away from Hoopeston, Illinois.. Sweetcorn Capital Of the World. Our City logo, which up until a year ago was the school mascot, but is now, in addition to the school mascot is on all police and city vehicles and uniforms, is Jerky, an animated ear of corn all dressed in athletic gear.

In a time before modern machinery, when work was done by hand and horsepower was measured in mules, sweet corn was pulled or jerked from the stalk. The leaves were shucked off and the golden ears were thrown in a wooden wagon pulled by a team of mules. This was Cornjerking, In other parts of the United States, this harvesting process may have been known as corn snapping, corn shucking, or corn husking. The many laborers who walked the fields to harvest the crops were called Cornjerkers.

The invention of the corn picking machine has made this hand harvesting process obsolete. By using modern machines, a farmer is capable of tending larger fields, thus producing more food with less effort. As a result, the term Cornjerker as used in the agricultural industry has become a colloquialism.

Hoopeston, Illinois has long been known as the "Sweet Corn Capital of the World." In the 1920's the term Cornjerker was first applied to the athletic teams of the school just as the Pittsburgh Steelers got their name from that town's steel-mills. Bob Poisall, a sports writer for the Commercial News, is credited with first coining the team name. From the information available, the name was a joke that stuck.

In the fall, the team buses to games were often late in leaving because the teams' members were still in the fields jerking corn. Per the custom at that time, Mr. Poisall was riding the team bus in order to cover the game for his newspaper. In exasperation on one of these occasions, he told them they would never get anywhere, they were just a bunch of cornjerkers. Glenn Brasel, coach of Hoopeston High School from 1922 through 1946, must have liked the term and felt it would be an appropriate team name. The emblem of an ear of corn first appeared on the team uniform in 1930. In 1965, the mascot known as "Jerky" was born. This walking ear of corn was created by Dick Hobbs, who was coach and athletic director at that time.

My hometown is Kane and its famous for its one resturant named Texas Hots. Texas Hots has the best food in the the area. Mouth watering, yummy goodness is all that describes the food.

Kane is small and many people don't even know where it is. If you say Texas Hots it sparkes their memory and they say how great the food is.
 
We aren't famous, be we COULD be if the US ever came under attack from an outside military. Chaparral is the Southern part of NM, right across from El Paso, TX and Juarez Mexico. We are also near Las Cruces and Alamogordo NM.
We are in between all these military posts:
Ft. Bliss, Texas
Biggs Army Airfield, TX
White Sands, NM
McGregor Range, NM
Dona Ana Base Camp, NM
HELSTF (where I was employed) that is the High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility, NM
Holloman AFB, NM
and Cannon and Kirtland AFB's are not far either considering the range of most missles.
So,, we could be famous if anyone is over or under shot!
Oh yeah,, lots of gunfighters came through, lived here, and died here in the area.
 
I really dont' know anything that the 'township' I live in is famous for...
We have no stop lights. Only one falling down stop sign. The fire dept. is volunteer and not really there. The local farmers still sit in the gas station each morning and play a few hands of cards. The post office used to be a hole in the wall. Now it is a room with a hole in the wall. That is open when need be I think..haha
I don't think the population is even at 100 people. And 5 of those are in my house.
I know animals definately out number the human population. Heck I probably have more animals on my farm alone compared to the population of the town ship I live in..

BUT the farm we bought was one of the TOP DAIRY FARMS IN WI.
Everyone for miles knows our place. Everyone for miles I think stored stuff here before we moved in.
And some still have junk out in the back.

Plus back in the day.....This farm use to be one of the top moonshine makers back in the day. We still have to copper vats and all the stuff up in the hay loft in the barn....
Maybe that's how it became one of the top farms..hahaha
