Think I found her a home.... :( UPDATE: Post 35

Im thinking that as well..
After I asked what department etc I havent gotten a response back

Be very cautious about this response. Police are not looking for police dogs....they are specially bred for police work, not randomly adopted through ads. This sounds like a buncher to me or someone who wants her/him for breeding. Be careful who you send your dog to. Her life and well-being depends on you.

Update:
I checked around with some local people (trainers, police) on another forum to check this guy out. One of them did respond knowing the guy, what department he worked at, and even knew he lost his partner (k-9) a few months ago.
He seems legit. Here is his response Email:
I work for _________ Police. I have been working K9 for about 5 years now. I would take Rudi down to Dooly Co Ga and have her evaluated if she looks like she has enough drive. I have become really close with the owner and trainers at South Ga K9 there in Dooly Co. I just got a brand new dog from them where I did all of mine and my new partner "Spikes" training. My first dog was a little older when I got him. We worked together for 4 years. he died about 4 months ago from natural causes. It like to have ruined me. I kept my head up and decided to get a new partner. I learned of South Ga K9 from a friend who had just gotten a K9 from them. They are all working Sheriff Deputies at South Ga K9. The owner's father is the Sheriff there. If Rudi does well she would be trained and put at a police or sheriff;s department to work on the road. I will know if she has enough drive and hunt if I came and looked at her and did a few quick tests. I assure u she would be well taken care of. I would keep u posted on her progress and where she would be placed. They mostly use imported dogs from Europe, but sometimes will take local dogs and train if they have the drive. Let me know if u guys are interested in this and we can set up a time for me to come visit and test Rudi. Thank you for responding to me. I always like to give good local dogs a chance to work if they have the drive!

Do you feel comfortable with this? Curious, would he be willing to give Rudi back to you if things did not work out? Can you work out some sort of agreement that you could take him back?
I know how I feel about my pets, and this has got to be a very hard decision for you and your family, and sometimes those heartstrings pull in one direction where the brain pulls in another...................

Those strings sure are pulling hard. Both times Ive recieve emails from this guy Ive teared up cause of course Rudi, being as loyal as she is, has her head in my lap or laying under my feet. She is such a great family dog.

He said hed come out to do tests before hed even take her. Id be sure to get her back if it didnt work out

First off, I have to give you this

for taking such good care of Rudi and wanting her to have the best. So many people would ' just get rid of her'. *shudder*

I would meet the guy in a neutral location (near the police station?) and let him run the tests so you can observe him while he's observing Rudi. If you get a good vibe, go to this training kennel for a session or two. Go from there.
If you go ahead with this then have a written agreement that he will return Rudi if the training does not work out and he cannot be put on the force. Document everything.
Our local sheriff has a K9 dog that was a rehomed dog. A beautiful black lab named Chase that does mostly search and recovery.
I say give it a closer look. Rudi sounds like the kind of dog that needs a career.

Sarah, I'd be looking into training and how to separate dog and goats. She's a beauty.

We rehomed a foster Dobie once, I can't even count the number of people who wanted her for nefarious purposes. She was really good at sensing their natures, only one guy even got close to her. Finally one day, after months of trying to rehome her, a man showed up and she took to him immediately! They have lived happily ever after, lol.

I don't believe the cop story for even a second.

We are working to set up a new fence. We cut the path this weekend (through 6' tall briars) and this coming weekend we are going on a camping trip (dogs will be at SOs parents house this time).
Honestly I just dont know how Rudi would do with someone else. Ive never seen her take to anyone like she did us. When we went to meet Rudi she was very open and trusting with us. Everyone who walks through our door she wont let them touch her. I wouldnt know how to even go about introducing them.
When we leave her at my SOs parents she stays back in the room where we sleep and only comes out to potty.

When my SO awoke this morning I told him of the email and he said hes just not ready to let her go and honestly I dont know if I would be either.
