Think I found her a home.... :( UPDATE: Post 35

Ok so I just had a thought...
What is this guy getting out of it? He is not personally going to work with Rudi..
Is he going to sell her to the training co. or get some % of what they get when they sell Rudi to the police?

I am positive the guy answering your ad is a scammer. I don't care what info. he gave you, anyone can say they're with any organization and had all kinds of experience with K-9s------what does that prove? In my area, police would not go to CL and look for a K-9------you have to call the proper department and ask if they're lookinf for dogs, and they have specific criteria the dog has to meethey cannot be over 5 years old, cannot be agressive, and need to be pretty friendly with everyone-----this is because they are trained by more than one person at first, and then paired with an officer. I have a GSD who was kept tied up to a run line with a logging chain in a back yard from puppyhood until I finally got yhe owner to let me have her when she was 5. I don't know why she never became agressive towards people, but this is the best GSD I've ever owned. Her only draw back is that if she doesn't like another dog, she will attack it. We have to keep her separated from our beagle-mix (she is an outside dog, he's inside). I think she would possibly go after our goats if given the chance, but they are in a solid pen, and she can't jump the fence. I would hate to even think about her going to someone else---GSD's bond VERY strongly to their owners-----I think she never really bonded with her former owner, because he just left her tied up and alone all the time. I believ she would give her life to protect me and my family, and she's always with me when I go out to tend the other animals. I hope that if you ever do decide to re-home her, you go a different route than CL----I've heard heart-wrenching stories of people giving a dog to someone, and finding out the person just turned around and sold it to whoever would give them the most money for it. This guy can give you a false name and address, even produce a false I.D. if he wants to-----what good would a signed agreement do then? Hope you can work things out for the best for both you and the dog. (Personally, I'd get rid of all my goats before the dog would go----just me.)

That whole email just screams scam to me. It's sad to have to think like this, but you never know who you are talking with behind the computer screen! I think keeping her in this case is the best decision, especially since you seem more than happy to work with her and give her a good life.

I say have the guy out to take a look so you have the opportunity to talk to him in person and see how Rudi reacts.

To me, it sounds like Rudi would have a much needed job, a chance to gain confidence so she doesn't have to hide away and away from livestock.

I'm not sure why you would have a dog like that anyway and tied/chained to the porch while you go out of town.

Not to sound harsh, just an outsider expressing an opinion based on the circumstances presented.

can you check out where he is saying will train your dog. if they take dogs from "police officers" who spot adds on the net surely they would talk to you about there training what they do where they hope to place the dogs what happens should the dog fail. If this place is genuine they will have references etc that can be checked out. If he is legit doing out of the kindness of his heart he will give you the infomation without problem. if he doesnt then i would be very suspect of his motives.

to be honest it sounds to me like you really love this dog and dont want to pass it onto someone else, maybe invest in training, a behaviorist may help i dont know much of what they do but the forum im with for my border collie recomend them to members with seriouse problem dogs.

training any dog takes a big comitment and takes time but its worth it. build a dog run with kennel. fence the goats in basically so you have goat area and seperate dog area. ask advice on a gsd forum for training or rehoming

best of luck i hope you can find a solution right for both you and your dog.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a bashing thread......................that would just be so mean
I don't think that does anything but cause hard feelings, anyway

check criedits.....my husband works for a sheriff dept and has been for 15 years, we have a k-9 unit who is soleley trained for drugs, not attack, where as a friend of ours is on a k-9 unit in a diffrents city and is trained for both. it all depends on the dept that wants the dog. the other thing is that once the dog is retired it will be given away. you can always request the dog back at that time if it does live out it's days in service.

Sounds to me like you Need to keep Rudi............
Put up fences....Train her..But for heavensake don't give her up you will be sorry if you do.
