THINK THE HEAT GOT TO HER

Sure you can keep her in the dog carrier as long as she is cool enough in it. Taking her to a vet is entirely your call. Most regular vets know nothing about chickens, I understand. You could just try separating her and feeding her special food, etc., for a couple of days and see if she perks up.

Sounds like worms to me and the heat probably made her feel worse. I would bring her in like your doing, give her lots of garlic in yorgurt, and put apple vinager in her water. For a wormer, I use valbazen (sp?). It's a cattle (and sheep I think) wormer and treats alot of different worms. If you just gave her Wazine, though, I don't know if I'd give her another wormer. I'm sure why she would be making that winning noise.

Hope she feels better.

I dont think it would hurt to give her vitamins and electrolytes in her water for a couple of days. You may try scrambling an egg for her, chop it into small pieces, and drizzle it with olive oil. If she's having crop problems, that might help her a bit. A great supplement is AviaCharge 2000, a complete vitamin/mineral supplement for birds, but I think you have to order that online.

I have Avia Charge and use it frequently. I think I'll mix that up in the water tomorrow and also cook her a nice breakfast of scrambled egg. How much olive oil should I use?

Hi! I lost my 11 yr old Barred Rock hen today. Temps hit 101+ here and I had a mister going for them to cool off, but most of the run is shaded anyway.
I think the high temps were just the thing to send her old body over the edge. I lost my other old BR girl back in the winter.
Neither my hens acted off, they just died.

Are there other chickens in your same space that are acting ok?
Do you have' Vitamins and Electrolytes' available to add to their water?
I give my chickens V&E in their water once a week, but kick it to every other day in this heat.
Good luck,
Lisa

Lisa,

I'm so sorry to hear that. :aww

I have 2 other chickens in the same space. Their run is shaded by oak trees. The other two were panting also today, but they were still fairly acitve.
I have Avia Charge available that I'm going to put in the water in the morning.

Chickaroo, a tsp or two over her food will be good. I just recently found that the extra virgin olive oil I gave some of my under the weather girls increased their circulation, or seemed to.
Lisa, I'm so sorry about your older hen.

hi..when you guys say..."give vitamins and electrolytes"..what kind of vitamins and what type of electrolyte? and how much?..i'm just asking..in case i ever need to give my girls something...sorry to interrupt this post..Wendy

Thanks everyone for your help so far. I pray that she'll be okay. I fell in love with her from day 1 and I'm not ready to lose her.
