Thinking about leaving SoCal

10k/acre is reasonable. Part of the thing is alotta places are asking cash, if normal loans are available we'd have 30% or better to put down. Mr Saddi's solution is to buy me a mini tractor, so i can drive the property, even if i can't walk it.

That sounds like a good plan.

No matter where you choose to move, if you do chose to move, all that matters is that you're happy(ier) It's not fair, what you're having to deal with, no one- especially not someone your age- should have to go through it.

Just a thought before a move, do you have allergies? You may want to check out the pollon counts as part of the general movin g posibility. Som friends of mine were all set to move to Idaho, even had a house and large property already purchased, and one month there nearly killed her. The Allergins were aggressive and she was then stuck in the house at all times with no windows open

Just something to keep in mind

Hope you get everything you want

Missouri has a low cost of living. The upper part of the state is more civilized. The lower you go, the more humidity and bugs. Columbia is a nice college town with not too too many rules and regulations on the outskirts.
I think every state now gets snow and other weird weather!!

The way I see it, I'm lucky. The car seats worked, my boys weren't hurt. When you're a mom that comes first. Yes I'd love to build them a treehouse and go surfing with them, but they still can do those things, and that matters more.

When the spouse and I took early retirement, we looked around quite a bit. The spouse is from the south and had no interest in ever returning - I've lived in the West (Oregon, Washington, California) most of my life with some brief times in Texas - absolutely no way would I consider the hot and humid and buggy portions of Texas - upper New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut. We looked in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, even parts of Northern California, especially in the Sierras. Many of those wouldn't fit your weather requirements.

From looking all those places, the cost of land is going to be your sticking point, I think. Given the medical issues you list, I wouldn't think you'd want to be very far from a city (over 25,000) with a major medical center. The entire West Coast is getting unreasonably pricey. We chose a rural area on the east side of the Cascades about 35 miles from a town of 40,000 and even here land under 10 acres runs $30,000-$50,000 an acre. Further out it drops down quite a bit, when I say further I MEAN further.

Yup! We are less civilized in southern MO. Thank God!

The summers are hot, the land is rich, the people are (mostly) sensible, and the winters are mild. The eastern side is much less racially divided than the west.
I hope you find a place that feels like home.

I was looking for about the same thing in Northern California, and found lots of possiblities in a great little town called Fall River Mills. It is directly east of Redding, about 20 minutes past the town of Burney. People were really friendly too. Look it up in Realestate.com or some other search, and I'd bet you will find some deals. It is about 3,000 feet, so not much snow, but some. Not as hot as Redding due to the elevation. The only reason we did not buy there is that we got this place nearer to our jobs - I still might check it out after retirement.

North Central Arkansas is where I'd love to be if we hadn't already established our roots here in South Central Arkansas. Somewhere up around Eureka Springs. Eureka is home to a lot of pleasant, hippiesh, peace-loving people who enjoy being rural and establishing the green life. The countryside is centered around the ozarks and there is snow, but it's a short winter and usually no more than 8-10 inches at any one time.

I escaped WIsconsin when I was 19. Beautiful to visit, but I HATED living there. Mosquitos in summer, -30º temps in Winter, blood suckers in the water, wood ticks....

ACK!

We live just south of Dallas- about 30 minutes- in a small town and although there are religious folk here, in the 5 years we've been here I've never felt harassed
or put on the spot or asked questions about our religion so please don't let that hinder your enthusiasm for Texas.
And to the OP- we moved from SoCal to Texas and absolutely had reverse sticker shock when we were house shopping. We literally laughed out loud at how much
property you can buy here vs. in SoCal with the same money.

I have never once had buyers remorse or regretted moving here from Southern California and when
folks ask how we like it I always answer- "You couldn't pay me to move back". Understand, I was born and lived in Southern California (back when being 'native born'
there meant something..) and I was proud of it, proud of my family before me that built their homes there and settled among the orange groves and raised us
but leaving was the best choice I've ever made. The schools here are great, the people are friendly and the kids (with a small exception) grow up respectful and kind
and violence is almost nil. I honestly didn't mean for this to turn into a rant against SoCal and a soap box preaching session for Texas but really- I can't say enough
good things about the place, the people, etc etc etc!
