Thinking of getting into quails any tips?

Pics
Here are some quail tips I learned from my own experience:
1.don’t get more than 3 and start Young so they will get tamed easier
2.always cut their wings the first time they are with you
3.keep them somewhere with sand or mud or shredded wood because they get poop stuck to their feet in slick surfaces like cardboard.
4.please make them enough space to run and flap their wings
5.adult quails don’t need much heat so a heat lamp won’t be necessary
Well i defo have more then 3 but i am doing my best to make sure they have human interaction so they dont get to flighty. I cut a single wings feathers on my chickens an alreaady bad plans to do it with the quail. Brooder has rubber textured flooring an it gets cleaned out every couple of days for health reasons. They defo will have plenty of space. As for heating i rather be on the cautious side and install a heat element in their house part as it does get very cold here in my neck of the UK. But thank you for your advice 😊

I hope you and ur quails are doing well:)

I have been told japanese quail are feather sexable by their chest feathers males have a russet breast colour females have a speckled breast. Are quail fully feathered at 3-4 weeks as i have read a few articles saying they are.
It depends on the colour. Japanese quail come in many colour variations. If they are standard wild type (Pharoah) they are feather sexable by around 3 weeks. They are fully feathered between 4 and 6 weeks.

Over here japanese seems to refer to the basic wild colour anything past that it seems is called something else like golden giant or blue or tux etc. Why the heck does the basic wild colour have so many names? holy heck its confusing.

So i guess my quail are know as pharoah by America (i am assume) terms. an i think ill be posting some photos over the weekend or next week to see what y'all think. I appreciate the help and info y'all giving me

Ok my paranoia is getting the better of me.

Here are pictures with 2 different quail. One pic does have flash (i have tried to reduce the brightness a bit) the other does not have flash. But all the chicks look like these 2. Im under the impression that males dont really have speckled breast but more of a solid russet brown orange breast colour

The speckles say hen, but if you look at the one on the left, I see a hint of rust. If that's a male, the rust will become more prominent over the next week or so.

Most all start out with speckles. Wait another week or two and you'll see a big difference.

Ya what you both said is what some ppl on a quail page said, it dont help that what i have been verbally told and read dont talk at all about speckles fading etc along that line.

So if the rust colour is really there there if u will i might have maybe 4 males which honestly make me feel soo much better plus the one on the left is my fav their name is Don Quixote cuz they are the most adventurous out of the group and they like being held i put some blue food colouring on the underside of his foot just in case he got out from under the heat and passed away.

So i got 2 cages out of my 4 tier quail cage system done. And i have moved the quail out into the top cage. Its been in the 70s almost 80 the last few day with the lows in the 40s.

It is supposed to get down to the mid 20s by Wednesday but get warm again after supposedly i say this as they have been telling us we are going to get like alot snow since like oct. Guess what! We got a light dusting that melted in the same day.

They will have their heat plate in their closed in house it will be on 24/7 unless its really hot. I had to move them out of the house as i am missing 1 and im worried my daughter might have taken it to school and maybe the school thought it a wild bird (which i am calling the school tomorrow) either way tho its gone and i cant risk the others (She has learning disabilities and does not fully understand somethings and i thought they were in a secure area she could not get into which today she proved to me she can).

All that aside here are a few photos of the set up and the quail. Any advice for improving the cage system is welcome, oh and i put a temporary wind brack along the back to cut down wind and the bag of compost is no longer on the top it also has a thick clear plastic sheet as temporary over the top and sides but has movement for air to escape etc.
