~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

Quote: I have milksheep. I like their milk better than goats. The E. Fresians have larger teats than most sheep too. They can be a bit fussy though in the care department so a E.Fresian/Dorset cross is easier to maintain. Or a Finn sheep. Purebred Finns can give birth upto 6 or 7 lambs at once. Usually if you don't want to raise bottle lambs you want to go for the bloodlines that don't go over 4 or 5. But they give enough milk to feed 4 or 5 lambs as an average across the breed. And they are not as fussy to take care of as the E. Fresians (better health in general) you just have to remember for that kind of output you have to input the groceries. I have Finn/Shetland/Dorset crosses and some E.Fresian/Lacune/Dorset crosses (Lacune is a French milksheep). Now I have some crosses between the two.

Tomorrow is set day:)

Does everyone have there eggs in order?

I have 16 BR turkeys eggs so far. I hope to get about 6 more before setting tomorrow afternoon.

So I said I would let my hen decide whether or not I was going to hatch on this Cinco de Mayo and as of yesterday she made the decision, she is now brooding thanks to leaving 4 fake eggs in the nest boxes for a couple of days. She was hatched last Cinco de Mayo and this is her 3rd broody period, I successfully broke her last time hoping to have her brood again now.

With her going broody now, do you think it is safe to let her brood for an extra 9 days until I set eggs on April 14th for the Cinco de Mayo hatch?

Manning - why would she sit nine days long? Isn't tomorrow set day? I'm confused.........but that is not unusual.

Okay, we got distracted by all the goat, sheep, and bunny cuteness, but back to my poult. I have one vote for BR. PLEASE cast your vote for what breed you think this little cutie is.

Last night I put two freshly hatched and dried chicks in with the poult for company. It perked up immensely and now is ruling the roost, so to speak.

Any tips on incubating the turkeys? I heard they're harder to hatch. I've hatched from quails to chickens, to exotic ducks to geese. But first time with turkeys. Anything different I need to do?

Do you have a full body shot of this poult?
