~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

Sometimes there's shadows in the air cell just before internal pipping as they get into position. My goose eggs have always hatched on day 28 and 29. So it looks good! Look for rhythmic movement, like breathing. Most times you can see the beak in the air space but you usually can observe the rhythm of their breathing. And of course, peeping is telltale sign of internal pip. Good luck! I love love love hatching geese :)

I thought it w was just shadows as the baby moved but I wanted to ask since it's my first goose. No peeping yet and u think my incubator since my ducks last week hatched on day 27.

Yayy! I set 13 turkey eggs and 2 duck eggs last night. In a few days I will set some silkie eggs and Polish eggs. Thank you so much ChooksChick for the turkey eggs. They were packed AWESOME!!!

I was definitely going to go for something like purple stripes, but really why do I want a jacket? I like to mess with the bator! I just need a pin that says, I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane!'
OH, I would love a pin with those exact words!!! I thought I was the only one. Yeah, I'm not alone!! lol

It's in the highest part of the air cell and it's only day 26.

I'm seeing a gren catapiller and a lovely cocoon!!

I just set my eggs. took forever because I had to rearrange all the eggs in my bator. I took the auto turner out, marked all the eggs a certain color according to what eggs are due to hatch what day(I stagger hatches) mared an X and an O on each egg and then played egg tetris lol. I set 24 BR turkey eggs and 24 chicken eggs(they are a week early I know). I now have a total of 76 eggs in a bator meant for 42  I have never done that before. Im REALLY nervous about this. these are the eggs I set for this hatch and this is my incubator fully loaded:oops:
This is the normal look of 3 of my 4 bators. The only 1 I try to avoid stacking is the hatcher....and btw, you can get a lot more in if you lose the cartons ;)
Turkey has been sitting on non fertile eggs for a few days, most of the time, but those eggs had been in there a good 3-4 weeks just to keep her laying there. So, figured if I didn't take them out, my luck one would explode in there just when I'm ready to give her good ones. So I finally remembered to buy plastic Easter eggs today, & switched them out. She was NOT happy about it!! Guess I should have waited til she was out. She pecked at them really hard! So, idk if its going to work or not. Now I'm really worried about giving her new real eggs that r fertile. I'm afraid she's going to peck and break them! Any way to prevent that?
Wait until she's up to eat before switching them out again. She's pecking the easter eggs because they look so different & are shiny. She won't do that to regular eggs that look as she expects them to.
Is this an internal pip for my goose?

Not yet but getting close. I'd say less than 24 hours & it will be.

I figured I could get in more in with out the cartons lol. But the eggs in the cartons are on day 12 and have been incubated upright this far snd the Marans eggs are shipped eggs. I felt as though they should stay upright.

Holy cow!!! Lol I would love to hatch that many! But I would NOT enjoy hand turning! How many times a day do u turn them???

I have put a little thought into my straight jacket if mostly because I do keep my hands out of the incubators except to turn about 50 eggs in two incubators 2-3 times a day. lol

Ok maybe I do need one!!

To hearald spring, do you think you can find a thick cotton material, in a floral design, perhaps pink tulips, with dark pink straps. And given the coolness of this spring, a matching hood?

There is a Hatchathon participant list on Google Drive at:

Please let me know if I missed anyone or if it needs updating!

OVAY! Awesome!!

my husband told me I spend too much time turning eggs.. i tried to argue the point.. so he "did the math"...

right now I hand turn eggs for 2 hours every day.. he decided to go conservative and base it on a lot less than that to make up for days when I was a kid and in school (but still turning eggs before and after school).. or the two weeks every so often that I take off from hatching... and then again there are the months that I hatch a whole lot more and spend way more than two hours turning eggs every day... anyway.. he came up with this...

almost 2.5 years of my life has been spent just turning eggs....

I really hope his math is wrong.. cause that's just depressing....

it makes me wonder what the actual amount would be since he based it on so much less...
and that's not including the hours spent tending to brooders.. cleaning coops.. feeding birds......

dayum.. I need a life

Oh, my good people!

I have lost 2 very dear people in 5 days I'm in a place with much need of cheer!!!

I am setting 20 dozen eggs in the Sportsman and will need to hand-turn many.

I seriously need a laugh, so it is time:

LET THE STRAIGHTJACKET SELECTIONS COMMENCE!!!

Most of us the first year were incapable of keeping our hands out of the incubators, and thus we decided we all needed straight-jackets.

I'll start.

This year I will wear a red sequined pair of combat boots with a gingham pinafored jacket. Picture a Dorothy from Wizard of Oz Gone Crackers number.

My grandmother would have loved it; it's in honor of her.

Mind you, my hair is in Pippi Longstocking wacky braids, too!!

Also, thank you to uphilljill for the sign-up sheet for the participants!!

I will post that to the front page pronto.
I resemble this jacket you design! HA HA HA
Seriously Ren I am so sorry your going through sadness, I pray the families can heal and remember them as I am sure they were great people
