~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

My 2 cents on exploding eggs-- weeping eggs are releasing the pressure so not as likely to explode. I get the bombs when I am burrying the whole eggs that did not hatch--- yukkkkeeeeeeee Rare, but memorable.

Ain't that the truth? I had never had an exploding egg until last year when I let my muscovies sit on their own eggs. They got stuff on their feet, climbed back on their eggs and a few weeks later, I had bacteria filled little bombs to deal with. The first one, I put in a plastic bag and then tapped it against a corner and it actually made an explosive sound and even through the plastic bag, the stench was out of this world - never dealt with anything like it before!

Just be glad you didn't pick it up to eggtopsy & have it explode all over your face & hair when you poked the shell. I had that 1 when I first started hatching.

Needless to say, I do not take chances with questionable eggs any more & I always hold eggs away from my face when eggtopsying just to make sure.
I don't eggtopsy the explosions

What I found with all of the duck eggs last year is that if there was no duckling in them - i.e., if they had turned rotten - they also had no air cell. When I candled, the entire thing was black. Taking a whiff of it also told me they had turned. No way I was going to try to eggtopsy those! They were all disposed of tied into plastic bags before going in the trash.

UUUUUUUMMMMMM.......................................................EGGS EXPLODE?!?!?!??

I better watch out......didn't know the possibilities!

had to pull a bunch of the ancona eggs... clears.. grrr
i hate clears... so much wasted space

Were those mine? I have been getting mixed results on the shipped ones. Some have done really poorly & some have had 80% or better hatch rates. Mine usually fall somewhere in the middle, but I always set the old eggs once everyone else's have shipped too.

I figure it this way--- better to have clears and pull them early , then have them start and quit. I'm betting shipping causes many eggs to qut before they even start.

I shipped two boxes of eggs at the same time from the same pens to two diferent locations. One person had only a few develop, andthe other person had 23/26 develeop. Same eggs, same pens, same age on the eggs. ME thinks shipping is afoot here.
