Quote: I start shipped eggs in a carton upright for the first few days (no turning.. large end up).. then set them at an angle and go from there for turning... once I have room in the bator they go completely on their sides... but since I have so many at any given time the shipped ones are competing for space.. so as a space saver it's easier for me to go upright in the beginning...
I use styro cartons (easier to clean).. and I don't do anything to the carton itself other than to remove the top and clean the bugger.. after that a clean cotton ball gets dropped into the well of each one (gets changed out for a fresh one between egg batches)..
the cartons make it easier for me to stack eggs 5 levels high when I need to... so again.. it's a space saver
if they are still upright (at an angle) at hatch they get moved to another bator which I use as a hatcher so I can lay them on their sides as well as keeping most of the mess confined to one location...
I also turn eggs a bit differently than everyone else.. lol.. but that's another matter altogether
from last night .. 9 out so far..silkied ameraucanas.. one egg pipped.. and one I can not see into for the life of me.. so it might be a clear for all I know...

Don't be so sure.. lol.. I have hatched out a lot of eggs that had air cells that were migrating all over the egg and full of bubbles (as in the membrane was totally shot all to heck)... you would be surprised at the eggs I have gotten to hatch..
Generally speaking, I set ALL the eggs unless cracked.
Yinepu-- how do you set eggs that have been shipped?
LOL NOW you tell me!!! The sulmtaler eggs are the smallest chicken eggs I have seen for a LF. I'm afraid I will drop them . . . that and Im anxious for them all to hatch . . yeah, I know I'm dreaming. Sure goona try though-- would love to have most of them hatch.
But you are the HATCHING QUEEN!!! You can get even scrambled eggs to hatch...lol

look below... for ones with really bad air cells I handle them a bit differently... but this is what I do with the majority...
