I agree, keep her broody and give her the bator chicks when they hatch.

Broodies, gotta love 'em

If mine even look like they are going broody I put them in a special pen that is "broody unfriendly" It is an uncomfortable pen, with only a perch and without a nest box. It breaks mine in days.

Perhaps it is just the shift to a new pen that does it but it does work for me

<------plugs ears I CAN'T HEAR YOU

That's okay, don't hear me. DO hear the doorbell when it rings. It'll be the UPS man delivering Jethro to you!

Seriously, throw some golf balls under her. If she sticks with it, when the bator chicks hatch - slip them under her in the late evening when the chickens are going to roost. Watch her close the next day - all though usually within 1/2 an hour you can tell if the broody will mother or flip out.

If she takes them and mothers them well - what a girl -

. If she is one of those rare silkies who dislike "kids"

, then you are already set up in the house for the chicks. But should she take them - how easy peasy for you!

hey didn't I tease you about Jethro being trained by Meatie for this?

Just let her have a go. She may turn into your best broody momma hen yet!

I am with the let her have a go lot!!!!!!!
I had eggs in the incubator and 2 broody hens with eggs too!!!! Had a terrible time and lost a broody hen with a bad prolapse so her eggs went into the bator cause the other hen tried to take them and there was about 15 eggs under her!!!! In the end all the eggs got muddled up so I couldn;t figure which ones belonged to the live broody or the dead broody or the bought in eggs in the incubator I got just in case as back ups!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Long story short - ended up with only 2 surviving chicks from the brooder and 4 from the live HEN!!!! out of over 25 eggs!!! Out of 6 surviving chicks 3 were darn roos!!!! Yeap the 2 from the bator were roos!!!
The Hen deffinately did best in bringing her chicks up and they were by far the healthier ones!!!! I sure would have loved to put those incubator chicks under that old hen but hers hatched a week earlier and she wouldn;t take them. - Put the golf balls under your girl and use her - its soooo much easier when you don;t have to play mother!!!!!!! If she is willing what have you got to lose????
