You can still move to Canada, Mexico, Iraq, or Afghanistan if you dont like it here....

I am not saying we do not still have the best country in the world, all I am saying is that as American citizens we have all gotten very lax in exercising our duties to tell our reps what we need and want. We gripe and complain about the things we don't like but don't do anything to change it. Take an active roll or it is only going to get worse.
Pick up your pen or email a letter to your representatives in Washington and le tthem know how you feel. It is the only way to change things you are unhappy with.

It's still possible to love your country and criticize it at the same time. Some of us are passionate about our country; that is why we criticize and defend it at the same time. AND we make no apologies for doing so.

Be nice people, they will close it if you are not.

If THEY don't like the way it is here then THEY should move and leave the rest of us alone to enjoy our freedoms.

Say what? I think sharp_shepherd misunderstood my post. I was responding to another quote. This thread seems confused or maybe I'm the one who is confused. I have been called "Gracie Allen" by DH:) I love this country with all its warts and I'm not going anywhere.

I know, it supposed to be a free country. Its getting to be more and more controlled..

I sure hope they let use keep birds that are not native.. I have button quail and Im not getting rid of them..

For the cigs.. Oregon just passed a law that it is a crime, and is considered child abuse if you smoke in a car with a child younger than 16.. It appears that you get a fine up to 3 times. Each time getting more expensive.. But it doesnt say what the punishment is for the 4th affense.. Im not a smoker, so I think this is a good thing.. But just the thought that they actually passed it.. What next..

God forbid we pass laws to protect children from second hand smoke. You should have the right to poison your child as much as you want.

Poison our kids? Are you kidding me? Come on get real will ya...smoking is now poisoning...better call the CDC and let them know about it. Funny that you cannot pump a stomach or give ipecac syrup for smoking.

I am a smoker ( off and on ) and I chose where to smoke, when to smoke and did not do so in a vehicle period...with or without kids. Nor did I smoke inside my home but that was my choice.

Women smoked around their kids, rubbed whiskey on their kids' gums when they were teething, gave a sick child a hot totty (ie hot tea with a shot of whiskey in it) for chest congestion, gave young daughters a sip of home brewed blackberry wine for menstrual cramps or allowed teens a glass of wine with dinner and guess what? None of us died from it and our mothers and grandmothers were not prosecuted or fined for it either. And lo and behold...very few of us turned out to be alchoholics because of it.

Personally I think it is WRONG for this ridiculous government of ours to tell us what we can do within our personal property. Be it smoking in our cars, having chickens in our backyards, garages or in our house with a diaper on. Now if the government wants to pay my car payment, my insurance payment, my mortgage and homeowner's insurance payments then and ONLY then should they have a say on what I do in them or with them. Because until they start making the payments for me they can politely take a long walk on a short pier.

and BTW I live in Oregon and if I feel like smoking again and wish to do so in my car...guess I will pay a fine but I will light up if I choose to.

In Arkansas, the law states that you cannot smoke in a car with a child younger that "6". I understand the reasons for the law, but would like for it to be MY CHOICE... not someone else's. I've been a Mom for 32 years. I'm not ignorant and hate being treated like I am.

This posting could go a long way.... I don't like being told I can't spank my kids either! I had my share of spankings as a kid and I turned out okay... don't abuse my kids and don't require a therapist to help me through the trauma of a bad childhood. I thank God everyday that my parents spanked my rear-end
