This chick has an interesting pattern..

The Columbian pattern of the Delaware is dominant, with one, or two copies, but has stronger effect with 2 copies. But it also depends on the genes of the other bird(s) in the mix.

Australorps are Extended Black which is also a dominant gene. Extended Black is dominant over Columbian, & many other genes.

So, Australorp Hen X Delaware Roo = 100% Barred, Black offspring.

They plus any other breed will produce 50%(Maybe. I'm bad at percentages), Barred Offspring.
Sex links if a solid Male breeds with a Barred hen though.

The chicks may resemble a Barred rock in coloration.
The roo is the Australorp. So hypothetically, if it is sexlinked and the roo is solid black, these would both be male? Assuming that the hen is a Delaware.

Any thoughts on the yellow?

The roo is cuckoo marans and the hen is what I think is a red sexlink something. Attached a pic of the mom.

It looks very light colored to me, and can almost see some light yellow barres like patterns if you look close.

The chick is Buff Barred/cuckoo. Is the red Sex-link the only possible hen, is there any Buff Orpingtons?

The odd thing is, I've done many Barred X Buff crossings, & never gotten a yellow chick, only black with, or without bars.

Is the rooster a Golden Cuckoo Marans by chance?

Usually, a chick with a Cuckoo Marans father would be mostly black (plus white barring, plus possible leakage of other colors.)

But that hen has the Dominant White gene, that turns black into white. That's why she's got a white tail and bits of white in other places, rather than having them be black like some other chicken breeds. If the chick would otherwise be mostly black, Dominant White turns it white (plus white barring, plus possible leakage of other colors.)

That would make a mostly white chick, but the chick in the photo appears to have a large amount of gold or buff color in the feathers. Genetically speaking, that doesn't make sense if the rooster is a Cuckoo Marans.

Weird. This one I know for sure the lineage because this one is from my grandma. The only roo is the marans. The hen I don’t know what it is. Just guessing a red hybrid of some sort. 🤔
