This chicken is a gluttonous dinosaur

Wren (pictured in my profile photo) is my 10 week-old cochin bantam. She loves loves loves poop pickup time so she can EAT THEM OFF THE POOP SCOOP! 🤮

Have the same problem with one of my 4 week-olds. I pick the poops out of the brooder by hand, and she lunges for them.

Why... why do all the deranged chickens seem to gravitate towards my house...

My chickens love crawdads. Last year I found one in the yard when I was mowing. I made the tidbitting noise and threw it in the run and it might've lasted a second on the ground, then the keep-away began. More recently I found 1/2 of a pincer in the run so they must be on the lookout for them now. Usually there's nothing left, so the shell and claws must not bother them. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe it’s Cochin bantams that have a taste for poop… I have the same problem and a very similar breed (pekins)
