This forum has been much different lately.

I agree completely. But the FAQ is a resource, and it's always there. There are threads where people did a cry for help and there were no responses. Makes me wonder what they did next and what the outcome was.
Oh sure, I agree with that. I wasn't trying to discount your suggestion. I just know it won't get used as much as it should be.

Most people wouldn't take free medical advice without considering the source.

I think the events of the last year have more than adequately demonstrated that statement to be on shakier footing than we would likely hope.

Moreover, this thread isn't really about the people demonstrating personal responsibility (a trait seemingly in short supply), doing research with trusted sources, or even reading the FAQs and Stickies at the top of ?every? Forum subject.

Its about the many who want an answer now, from any person who happens to answer, with little or no responsibility (or effort) on their own part. And their close corollary, the ignorant who have decided upon an answer which comports with their world view, seeking approval. The first, at least, might be helped. The second has taken a leap of faith into an abyss in which they seek some comforting darkness.

I think those people probably considered the source, they just trusted him more than any reasonable person should.

I realize that people often come here looking for an easy fix to their problems. Often there isn't one and just identifying what their problems are is a long, drawn out process. I just wanted it to be clear that I don't think anyone on BYC should be expected to pull off miracles on demand. But yes, the people expecting miracles might still be helped.

That second group probably can't be helped and should take their bucket and go somewhere else.

One example of far, far, far too many. and, it could be argued, that example did the same. Distressingly little interest in honest information brokers any more - much more interest in being entertained and comforted (or, at least, world view reinforced) by ones chosen "news" sources, whether they be on TV, the algorithm driven Facebook echo chamber, a celebrity Twitter feed, or whatever. Punditry has taken over.

its one aspect of the effect of cults of Personality upon the masses.

You were rude.
The rainbows are your way of telling everyone your sexuality. We don't care. Keep it to yourself. If you are an adult you can be what you want, unless you are a pedophile or into bestiality then may you burn in he!!
Just because you think someone else is being rude doesn't give you the right to be rude too. Calling someone Kiddo isn't overly friendly. What happened to turning the other cheek?

If you don't want to see signatures, turn them off. Your assumption that you know what those rainbows mean is a assumption. As for "We don't care", that's an assumption too. All you can really say honestly is "I don't care." And I honestly don't care that you don't care. I do care that you feel compelled to waste everyone's time telling them you don't care, "Friend".

I suppose that depends on what you mean by "learns". Experience depends on more than one occurance of an event. It goes back to the every problem is a nail if all you have is a hammer. If you "learn" how to treat an egg bound hen you shouldn't think that experience is relevant to a six week old roo. And, while you learned enough to treat your hen, you may not have learned enough to actually diagnose the situation in someone else's hen.

It's about knowing which questions to ask as much as about which answers you give.

And about finding a balance between the situations you can help with and the ones you should leave alone.
Absolutely. Thank you for your response.

There is some truth to this but he was also defending himself after the original person had been rude and told him to “ get over it “ about pride month. Just saying.

Well....putting a broody hen under a bucket would definitely keep her from going anywhere. So....it’s accurate advice. I’m not so sure I’d use it though. 😂
LOL. I have to agree a laundry basket would be better. But on the flip side, an anvil would be worse (even if, of the three, it's the only one pretty much guaranteed to keep her in place).

I went back and read the whole thread. Cherrylimeaid was the first to complain about the sig. Then TheOddOneOut took chickentrains to task for being disruptive on a thread TheOddOneOut started. Then BYC Friend erlibrd demonstrated that empathy we value so much by kicking chickentrains some more. It seems to be not the simple tit for tat you want to paint it as. Just saying.
