hello!
So...something funny has been happening with our neighbors chicken and I thought that I would share it. I would also like to know if it’s a cockerel or pullet. I don’t think that it’s that old either. Anyways our neighbors chicken has been walking across the dirt road and jumping our fence into our yard. It walks over to our really big oak tree and jumps/flys up to the big branch until he’s high up there and in a comfortable position and looks over our field where our hens free range. He’s done it a few times now. I assume he goes back to his coop at night because yesterday I saw him in the act walking over to the tree. Does anyone know why this chicken is doing this? I just think it’s the funniest thing. Anyways I took some pictures. They were hard to get because it’s really high up there so I did my best to get the pictures clear.

Haha I know!!! He sits up there most of the day and just watches the hens. Honestly I don’t even think the neighbors know he goes missing during the day. He just nonchalantly walks through the field and hops up on the wheel barrel and jumps/flys up to one of the beaches and then up again until he’s high up in there.

Honestly, does this rooster crow?, because i think im seeing a hen.
Small pea comb with a slick back top knot. No saddle feathers or hackle feathers that i can make out.
Part of the behavior could be that this bird is not accepted or on the lower spectrum of the pecking order accross the road and he/she is longing for a more welcoming and friendlier flock.
I used to have a hen that looked exacly like this. Her name was Dutchess because of the crown on her head.
My Dutchess kind of independent and was a loner too and would disapear every summer then show up a few weeks later with up to 18 little chicks behind her, all with little crowns on there head.

I have no idea if it crows. It comes around noon and just sits up there in the tree. I think your right about not being excepted in its flock. How old do you think it is? I have babies that are about 11 weeks and this bird isn’t too much bigger. As I’m thinking right now I don’t think they have any trees over there. It must feel comfortable up there just looking around at everything. I think it’s super cute.

That’s a cute name, Dutchess. Haha she would show up with a whole new flock. That’s a lot of baby chicks!!!
