Generally, cockerels of barred breeds are much lighter than the pullets. It has to do with a double barring gene, or something of that matter?

If this chicken really is a mix, the lightness of the barring wouldn't matter.

That's true. I'm still going with pullet, though, based solely upon comb/wattles.

Hello, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to respond! Such a huge relief to hear so many people saying she is a most likely a pullet because we can't keep roosters around here. Looks like her name is staying Genevieve.

She is a hen for sure She just started laying eggs
