Thank goodness we live in the country! I could not imagine not being allowed to have my chickens and ducks. The only time I see my "neighbors" is if we happen to check the mail at the same time. I do believe I would have to go to Lowes and start buying some of those wooden dog eared fence panels, purchase me a "storage building" and start teaching my chickens how to hide!

Gosh, out here in the wild, wild west there's lots of subdivisions built in the "country". They spring up out in the middle of nowhere and the builders try to entice buyers to move there with the lower house pricing due to it being such a commute to the city. They all have HOA's and do not allow livestock, even though it's in the country. We have 20 acres in the middle of pure country and builders have built million+ houses, a huge water park, and a 18 hole golf course about 10-15 minutes away...5 minutes if the roads were graded by the county or paved, lol.

OP, do you get any say where you move? Maybe it's not too late to turn the tide on that decision, and you could move to a place that allows livestock.

i would see if by law could be changed, like just having just hens. i know that there is a young girl from portland maine who got her local law changed, might want to look her up and ask her how to go about it

If you want to get technical, subdivisions are not completely rural areas.
If you look at it practically, a subdivision could have lots large enough to operate a small farm. BF's sister technically lives in a subdivision, but she has a couple of acres of land and could very well have a large garden, chickens and maybe even some other small livestock. There's a farm right behind her, 10 feet from her fence, with cows, chickens, turkeys, geese and who knows what else. It's not country, but most people wouldn't think to call it a subdivision either.

Subdivisions are not always suburban areas. Suburban areas are on the outlying areas of cities, while subdivisions are simply large plots divided into smaller plots.
