could be possible but it wasnt from my eggs

And the eggs were cold when i got them (and sweating) and they took an almost 2 hour journey to get to me LOL. And were candled on day two and none showed any visual development.

Also my incubator is always at 100.8 its' a cabinet incubator and stays very stable

Huh, maybe he's just odd. lol. I had a chick not too long ago pip two days early, die (pretty dang sure it did cause absolutely no movement and the egg went cloudy and green), and hatch 3 days after the 21st day. I call him my zombie chick... he hasn't made any staggering movements for my head yet at least... braaaaiiinsss. He's tiny and a week old now.

Howdy again Monarc!

Today, I just had an oegb pop out on day 19. I noticed one was pipped last night when I took them out of the turner, but didn't really think much of it. This afternoon I noticed it zipping and I was really surprised. He's making a racket in there right now, but he's not dried off, yet!

I would think that the hen had sat on the eggs. An egg in a very early stage of development can go 'dormant' if it is not kept up to temp. That's why it is so critical to open your bator if you have a power outtage.

I would suggest you check your bator for hot spots as well though. But I don't see the egg being so warm as to make the chick hatch 5 days early without candling it?

Only you Niki, only you!

I never open my bator during a poweroutage I didnt know that was a thing to do (im still nto gonna do it tho because our power outages stay out sometimes for over a day would rather keep them warm as long as possible

lol I've had a 100% sucessful hatch happen during a power outage it was pretty cool).

I know only me right...and the thing is i feel like no one believes me because it is so early it makes no sense...LOL.

The thing is even if it was sat on by a hen, what gets me is I candled everyone on day 2, no differnce in the yolks... then on day three i always see some startages....even if this was a dormant chick i could only see it being a day older, and still that'd mean it hatched 4 days early still seems so weird to me

Really?! I had never heard that. I just figured that you would want to keep that bator closed and hope to heck that the power came back on before the poor eggies died.

Nope, do a search, it is better to open the bator and let the eggs cool, as they will go dormant in many instances.

We had a thunderstorm last night and lost power. My 3yo DD was crying and I got up to bring her to our bed and noticed everything was off. It was back on by the time dh went to work early this am. I have no idea how long it was off, but it didn't stop this little bugger from hatching. I'll have to research this...

Have either of you ever had a broody hen leave the nest early, or had her kick some eggs out? I have, a few times, and the eggs are always cold when I find them. I bring them inside and put them in the bator, and at least 50% of them will hatch every time. What day they are on makes a big difference, but cooler is better, rather than trying to keep them luke warm, which will most likely kill them.
