This is a pretty cool idea. I could see the Obama's getting behind it too...

Backyard Hens for the White House
Mrs. Obama’s efforts to educate and provide healthy futures for our nation’s children through her Let’s Move campaign would benefit from the addition of backyard hens to the First Family’s home.
Backyard hens provide more delicious and nutritious eggs. In fact, hens allowed to range, as opposed to caged, produce eggs with 7 times more beta carotene, 2/3 more vitamin A, 3 times more vitamin E, 2 times more Omega-3s, and have 1/3 less cholesterol and 1/4 less saturated fat.
Additionally, chicken droppings, when added to compost, make great fertilizer for the garden. Hens also enjoy hunting and pecking for insects, which means bugs will not bother the First Lady’s garden anymore.
Most importantly, they would be a great teaching tool for children who tour the White House garden!
It needs 25,000 signatures in 30 days in order for the White House to respond. That is a tall order so please help me out and go sign at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/backyard-hens-white-house/lJ7Ss51M.
