Well, i'm in 4-H myself.
It's kinda sad how kids treat their birds..they don't even know their breeds half the time. Then there's about...4? of us that are REALLY into it, and show other places, too. This one kid wins grand or reserve EVERY YEAR with his standard cochins. Amazing birds. Then this other girl and her brother raise primarily old english..they didn't get much this year surprisingly, but eh. You get some really nice birds, and you get some truly...bad ones that are covered with mites. YUCK.

Ughhh. That same guy relisted those same 2 PQ pullets on Eggbid again. Despite my warnings he used my pictures again. I sent him another email about reporting him to Eggbid if he doesn't pull them and be truthful about those birds. Buyer beware there!

Don't assume Eggbid cares. A couple of years ago someone was selling "Show Quality Black Rosecombs" that were black, had sort of a rose comb & otherwise looked nothing like a Rosecomb Bantam. I contacted Eggbid about it & got an email back from the Eggbid owner that said if it has 2 legs & feathers he regards it as "Show Qualitty".

LOL
Sorry Amy I cannot help myself, but Jerry is the same as he was 9 years ago when I dealt with him.
When you emailed me to let me know who the buyers were I had a good laugh when I read his name and figured he was still up to no good.
If it makes ya feel better your not the only person he has done this too, and yes back than I was pretty POd.

Looks like you are still spoiling those boys you got from me, lol
They are pretty, but they can go to the barn now, ROFL
Ya see the small boys can grow on you can't they,

It was -21 last night and still -4 when I was out doing chores around noon. I'm not killing another bird because they aren't acclimated.... I did sell off 1 of the 4 older white cockerels I was holding back to make room for these boys out there. Maybe this weekend...might be in the 30's if the weatherman is right.

The really bad part is that I fell for that guy's sob story about wanting to get into raising silkies. I even offered him a list of people that wanted just the blue and splash from me. I know you've seen that rooster at a few shows and maybe the splash hen back in '08. The nice blue pullet was the clone of the one I sent with you but just younger at the time. The 2 PQ blue pullets he supposedly only wanted for broodies for his EE's. Those were the really tiny ones last october that you told me to hold on to just in case they turn out to be something. After repeated e-mails, he finally did replace them with pics of his own. I see for his current pics he plucked all the tail feathers out now. I know those birds were not laying as he claimed in the eggbid ad too. They were only 4-5 months old. You don't see an egg out of mine til they are 8+ months usually. They were not laying at my place as of 2 weeks ago and the stress of moving them up to him magically started them? I looked back on his photobucket site and he had those poor silkies crammed in with huge EE's. Those poor babies....

I asked someone I bought eggs from on eggbid if they were show quality. Her reply was 'well, you can show them'. Not exactly what I wanted to know.

I understand some folks might breed to the standard and actually work on the breed but not have time, etc. to show. I didn't get that feeling from her.

ETA: I mean I asked if her BIRDS were SQ. Sorry, that does make a difference, doesn't it?

Just the use of the term SHOW QUALITY irks me. To me true Show Quality is a bird which you took to a show and won something against multiple numbers of birds in it's breed/class. Not just took to a show. Even then, many breeds are so rare, they may never go head to head at a show against their own breed. I don't think you should get a best of breed unless you actually show against another bird in your breed.
And one more thing that irks me, those who live off of another breeders name. I think unless that breeder is holding your hand and walking thru all your culls and telling you who to go where in a breeding program that is not the original breeders line anymore. It is your line.

Just my humble opinion...There's no such thing as show quality eggs. You can say they are out of show birds, but that doesn't mean you will get show birds. A show quality bird must meet the APA or ABA Standard. If it is close to standard but not quite, it would be breeder quality and if it would be disqualified, it would be pet quality. That is how I sale my birds when someone wants them.
