My brother-in-law came for dinner one night, he was late of course, we had already eaten. I yelled into the kitchen that the salad was in the fridge. A few min. later he came out with the dish that had the chickens salad in it (outer lettuce leaves cuke peels that sort of thing) covered in ranch!! I really laughed at him.
I made a pot of leftover grits, eggshells, creamy tofu & oatmeal for the peeps this morning (cold & rainy night last night). Added a dash of bacon grease to it, too. DH thought it was cream of wheat at first, but thankfully didn't try any...
I mentioned it at work, since folks there have chickens, too. My peeps have learned that I only let them run around in the afternoons, and morning visits are for warm treats. So they were ready for treats when they saw me. Cute little critters!
My co-worker laughed as hard as the lady Pedro dealt with about the bread! And then informed me that my peeps are WAAYYY too spoiled!! Maybe.
But mine sure lay plenty of tasty eggs! Haven't slowed down production hardly at all, and with no extra light... So THERE!

YAY! Happy Solstice to you too! Cute story...
When I was working (unemployed now) the people at work ALWAYS asked me how my chickens were. They call me "Pedro de los pollos" (which means Pedro the chicken man! Hey! Not original but, it's catchy!)
Now, no one asks me about my chickens so I e-mail my friends.
Hey Wegotchickens, what exactly are grits? I've never had them. I've seen what they look like on cooking shows...what do they taste like? It's not something served very often on the Pacific coast I guess.
