You could surely get them to let you bring a bird if it was a broody! She'd just sit there, staring as hard as she could- furthermore, you could say it's your 'service' animal for keeping you calm and serene- Heck- the fact is, it's the truth!!

I do not know why you are going in for surgery but it sounds serious so, I will be thinking of you and your family and pray for you to recover quickly and feel like a million bucks in no time.
