Ah, summer. Chicken season. My incubators have been running nonstop since April, my yearly hatchery order is growing beautifully, and I've been acquiring birds right and left for months now.
Last month it was Mads, my beautiful Black Crele Orp roo... I said, this is it, this is the last one I buy until this year's 50 CX and Chukar meaties are gone... I won't buy any more until at least fall.
Next, it was my beautiful new Sebastopol geese. It was just a pair, right? Only 2 birds. 2 more birds won't hurt.
Then my peahen started laying again. They don't lay many eggs in a year, so I better snatch these up while I can and throw em in the bator. Come to think of it, a couple Sumatra eggs won't hurt either.
A week or two goes by. All goes well, no new chickens to report. My promises are being kept!
But suddenly, a guy on craigslist is willing to trade some Marans and Jubilee Orps for the old metal feeders I'm selling off... Marans and Orps, just the breeds I've been needing for months! Cue two sweet 3 week old chicks coming home with me...
That wasn't even 3 days ago. And today, I've already made plans - 2 Booted Bantam pullets, just an hour's drive from today's destination.
Guys... I think I have a chicken problem.
EDIT: Proof: I came home with 3 pullets and 1 cockerel. I blame the guy for bringing extras for me to choose from.
