One more thought on that. . .

I wonder whether the folks who wanted to be annexed by Newport rather than CM will still feel that way if the mansion folks completely take over the neighborhood. The NB zip code designation may help with property values, but it's still Newport and there's a cost to that. Only time will tell.

I've spent some time in developing countries and don't see anything racist about the Mexico comment. The keeping of "livestock" is a lot more than where your family came from. Just look at BYC.

Pretty close, that's why. I'm a little over a mile from there, but in the "not Newport" area - by the fairgrounds.

Hubby's office is just past the Equestrian area by the airport and since he rides his bike to work often, he gets to ride through the area. If we could afford to live there (don't have a few million laying around!) it'd sure be great for his commute and for my chickening and gardening.

Edited to add - You can see in my avatar just how small my yard is. That's my neighbor's house behind the chicken coop.

Thanks! It's the kids' old playhouse that we revamped into a chicken coop.

Yes, I've spent many a day visiting the chickens at the Centennial Farm, but more so before I had my own.

I wish those chickens had more free ranging room (some of them are pretty well plucked) or if they had fewer of them in there. My three little girls are in heaven in their own backyard with plenty of room to roam, so I tend to wish that all chickens could enjoy that. However, these animals still serve a pretty good purpose in this area. Lots of field trips make it out there so that these city kids can learn a thing or two about animals and growing. When we go to the fair, the kids and I love spending time over there to see everything.

Nope, it sure hasn't. It runs from July 11 - Aug. 3, so you have just enough time to plan! If you want to enter, you'll need to do so by June 14. Open Poultry judging is on Saturday, July 26th, if I'm reading it correctly.
