Could a broody chicken hatch quail? Or...did I hear something about chickens and quail needing to stay far apart?

A quail egg has a delicate shell. A tough membrane, but the shell itself is pretty fragile. Then there is the disease issue. There are things that chickens are naturally immune to that quail are not. Keep them both together and you have good odds of ending up with a lot of dead quail.
