This year's eggs Update:Damsel on nest

It is possible that little squirrel you got hanging around got your pea egg, i have seen them eating guinea eggs they found in the woods.

Okay hey we are back from turkey hunting. We didn't see or hear turkeys when we were hunting, but when we were not hunting we saw turkeys.

When we returned I went to check for more eggs, and check on the one left under the palm fronds...That one was totally gone, but what happened later totally makes up for the egg...

All in just this afternoon I saw all of our three peahens mate. Alto, my two year old, mated with Pip. Alto really likes Pip, and since all my peafowl are together, Dragon is in the pen too. Dragon is 4 so I am not so sure if Alto's matting will be any good, but Alto does have one eye feather and Dragon is never dominant acting over Alto. Then Ice mated with Dragon only a few minutes later, and several minutes later Damsel walked over to were Dragon was displaying and they mated, which makes me really happy because Damsel and Dragon are pied peafowl and I really have been wanting eggs from them. So now I will just wait for eggs.

Oops just noticed your post...
I was wondering about that for the egg the latest egg that just went missing...There were two squirrels that took off from that area when we pulled up to the pen, so that is going to be a problem.

We have a lot of squirrels, and they love to visit the pen.

So I walked into the tin shelter to find some bits of an egg shell on the ground. "Oh goodness did a new egg get eaten?" was my first thought. Then with further inspection I noticed on top of the nest box we built them in there, at the very corner of the box there was the splattered remains of an egg with some bits of shell too. Well that didn't make me feel much better. I know who did it too. Pip was looking like she was about to lay for two days with her wings drooped so I am sure it was her. Poor thing, this is her first year laying. Now I can only hope this won't be a habit thing and that this is just a first time mistake. Well on the bright side if she always lays eggs on the roost she will be a good free-range peahen.

I was thinking the same thing for my suspected egg eater hen. That might be your problem but it would not make much sense if one of your birds at one egg but not the others.

Do they drop their wings before laying?? I saw my girl doing this today. But I also noticed that they do this when they are more interested in the boys.

No I was wondering more about a squirrel eating the egg instead of peafowl eating it. That is what I thought might have happened to the other egg.

They will drop their wings for an extended period of time, not just for a few minutes. They will walk around like that and sometimes look hunched over. Also sometimes they pace around a lot too.
