Thought I had a pullet...

LOL, yup!

There may be someone on your state thread who may be interested in him. I am in Michigan.... I can have roosters... How close are ya?
There's a state thread?? I'm in MI too so this caught my attention. Where can I find it?

Wish I were back up north ... although we are originally from WI/MN area. Currently we live in NC, about 1 1/2 hours south of Raleigh. We could just hang tight and see what develops. This morning I was able to shush what I thought was my hen, with food. Maybe he's not a big crower?

I really do like this chicken and would be very sad to have to give him up.

Dang! I thought he was a bit too pretty for a hen!

SO, can you talk to the neighbors and see if they'd let you keep him, but be willing to give him up if he becomes a bother?
I have talked to the closest neighbor before about my noisy kids (we have 5). She claims to never hear us above her ac/furnace. I'll ask about the crowing. That may be another matter. My situation gets a little trickier in that of my 2 "babies" (about 1 1/2 months) I'm pretty sure the blue Cochin is a roo and can only hope the buff Orpington is a pullet. I just wanted 3 little ol' laying hens when I began this venture -- now I'm beginning to think I have a rooster farm!

He's young and just getting started with the crowing. You won't know for a couple more months what his pattern will be. Some roosters crow in the morning and then are mostly quiet during the day. Others (like my EE...) crow in the pitch-black pre-morning and many times during the day (and he was quiet compared to my mom's Brahma-mutt!) There is a wide range of normal.

I guess I should just wait until I have more land before I raise a rooster.
