Thoughts on ordering from Murray McMurray?

My experience with McMurray was in Feb 2018. I ordered 2 speckled Sussex (4 weeks old) and 2 Black australorp (4 weeks old). They arrived in good shape and the first 3 weeks all seemed ok. (I take good care of my girls, fresh water every day, good quality food, and I clean the cages every day) One day one of the australorp chicks became fluffed up, hunched down, wings touching the floor. I was so upset! I had them vaccinated against everything available. They have not been around any other animals. But I found her dead the next morning. I have spent hundreds if not more taking my chickens to vets. They seem unfamiliar with chickens because keeping backyard chickens is a recent trend (I think) That is just an explanation as why I did not take her to the vet. I buried her. Now 2 days later another chicken is showing the very same symptoms! I am undone. I did start her on Denegard but I am not seeing any Improvement. I just don’t understand how chickens that have been vaccinated and completely segregated from other animals, and well cared for could become sick and die like this. Maybe one but not two. I am not passing judgement on them, just my experience
I would have a necropsy done on this next one if it dies. It may have nothing to do with vaccinations or anything from Murray McMurray.

I didn't have the money to get a necropsy done and you are right it may have nothing to do with McMurray. I was only telling my experience with them

I just received my layers that I purchased from Murray McMurray. I ordered 10 black stars and 10 buff Orpington hens. I received 5 extra rosters(which the box was labeled they were for warmth.) As I was putting them into the brooder, 1 of the black stars was really weak and feeble. She did not make it through the first night. The hatchery credited me the cost of the bird. They gave me the choice and I chose the credit. Their customer service is amazing. I've called several times before and after my purchase and they were incredibly helpful every time. A handful of the birds had pasty butt but, a probiotics and electrolyte packet and that was gone. Oh, I forgot to mention, they gave me a rare straight run bird. Turns out it is a mottled houdan. All the rest of them are alive and kicking and are very active. So, I lost 1 out of 26 total birds. Not bad, I don't think. Getting ready to build a portable hoop house coop to keep in 164 feet of poultry netting. This is to separate the new ladies from the old buffs that I have. I will cull the old ladies in the fall after the new begin to lay.

I would say my experience with them was an enthusiastic thumbs up. I will order from Murray McMurray again. However, I just ordered some more broilers as well as a half dozen lavender Orpington straight run from a much closer hatchery. Just over an hour from home. Excited about the lavender.

My experience with McMurray was awful and ongoing. From delayed shipping, to genetic disorders, to customer service, i will NEVER use or recommend them again. The next day shipping took two nights/ three days to get to me. All 4, juvenile americanus were in rough shape from being delayed. When I called to complain they told me “2 day shipping doesn’t include the day we mail them, so it’s really 3 day shipping!”. I got them in late March, the first to die was in May, then July, then November. I’m not sure what the first one died of. It was sudden and unexpected. It happens I guess. Had it only been that one I would not have been upset at them about it. It wasn’t until one became lethargic and immobile that I found out she had a neurological disorder that the vet thought was likely genetic. The third bird had been unhealthy for a long time and finally died of liver failure. She was only 10 months old. Of the 4 only 1 was ever healthy enough to lay. She’s still alive. I should mention I have 8 hens aside from the ones I had ordered from them. Nobody else has been sick with anything, let alone died. Seems a bit to coincidental to me.
