Thoughts On the Inaugeration

pips&peeps :

I think that all the hype has gone way overboard about him. I personally did not vote for him, but you cannot go 24 hours without a huge story on the news or the internet about him.

I also think that the amount of money they are spending on the inaugeration is ridiculous considering the state of our Nation right now.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I see your point, It could be toned down for sure. However this IS a very historic day in our nation and the world IS watching and if I read the news correctly most of the world is in admiration of this event and us.

No offense intended but I must ask why is this day any more historic than any other president swearing into office?

I haven't read the whole thread, but my personal opinion is that no other President in history has been given this BIG HUGE 10 day party. What makes this man any better that our past Presidents? I just don't get it. Tomorrow is a great day in history, but what is all this hoopla before hand about?

We learn from history and I tried to point that out when I started this thread. I truely understand what you are saying. I have a granddaughter with a African American father. It would indeed be a happy day if no one paid any attention to a person's color but life will not have it so. It truely is an historic event in spite of your disclaimers. Many Americans with African heritage have been and will be weeping with joy and rightfully so.

I am sorry but I see this reference to his race as a serious problem, it is clear by these very posts that he was voted for on a platform of color. This is so wrong in every aspect. It is wrong just for the fact that it means that the only reason some did not vote for McCain WAS because he was white. It is a blemish on us just as much as slavery was. JMHO

I'm just wondering how much we borrowed from China to pay for the Inaugeration. We won't be watching. It's an absolute waste of money to spend on ANY President.

If Obama is so set on change maybe he should start with putting the money for the Inaugeration to better use.

I haven't ever seen this much hoopla either but I doubt it is his (Obama's) choice. Events are just pulling him along.

I am also very disappointed about the amount being spent on this Inauguration. I read an article the other day that said that this Inauguration will cost 4 times as much as the next most expensive in history. Makes a lot of sense in the middle of a recession/depression, doesn't it?
