We all know our health care system is far from perfect. Most of us also know that universal health care (as it has been described for us and implemented in other countries in practical application) is also far from perfect. We need to demand that our elected officials pass legislation that uses COMMON SENSE MANAGEMENT of all, repeat ALL government programs. Our govt. throws away BILLIONS of dollars every year on pork barrel projects, pet projects, foreign "encouragement programs" (anyone remember when just a few years ago the U.S. paid the king of Egypt $10 MILLION dollars to attend some talks between Israel & Jordan??) and ridiculous programs like SOME, not all, but SOME of the National Endowment for the Arts programs like paying that loony-bin woman $10,000 to go up in an airplane and throw confetti out so she could "sculpt the sky"?? Let's get real. Use some common sense and implement sufficient oversight for the programs we do have to cut back on fraud & abuse. After seeing the less than stellar success of government run housing, do we REALLY want to demand government run health care? I, for one, want to have the option of going to the doctor I choose, not whomever happens to be next on the rotation list. JMHO

i have a young cousin that has Cystic Fibrious(sp?)...now my cousin (her father) can in NO way afford all the medical bills she has had..he is a single father..and is trying to do all this on his own..and no, hes not on welfare..he actually has a good paying job working on/developing computer programs...but still, even with his job there is NO WAY he could pay for all her care...the meds alone per month are more than he makes...and she recently just had a double lung transplant..it was the only way to try to save her life...and he gets help from the childrens hospital...i mean it simply comes down to this...he cant afford the medical care..they HAD to step in and help...

there is never any reason in this country for a child to not get medical care...NEVER...there are ALL kinds of help and programs...

Maybe you guys are right...it should be everybody pays their own way. Lets stop funding public education first, my kid goes to private school at a cost of 700.00 a month; I should not have to pay so yours can go to public school at little cost to you.

We can get rid of the police department, you all can buy guns and defend yourselves. If you run a redlight and hit me I will shoot you when I get out of the car. That way we don't need police.

And the fire dept....I don't care if your house is on fire...why should I pay to put it out.

I have 4 wheel drive, lets stop paying for road construction too....If you want smooth roads you can buy bagged blacktop at home depot and fix the holes you want fixed.

Anybody see how logical this train of thought is yet?

If you have government run healthcare they will decide what treatment you receive, how long you have to wait to receive it and what doctor can treat you.

I don't think it is government control that we fear so much as it is the loss of a little bit more of privacy. There are still fiercely independent people who like doing things on a one to one basis.

ahh, but you are not in America, correct? and yes, here they would tell you what doctor to see..etc...just ask anyone on state health ins.(there are only certain places you can go..and only certain procedures they will do on you...where as with MY ins...i can go anywhere and get done EVERYTHING that needs to be done...)...i do foster care and i have to travel over an hour to take the kids to a dentist that accepts their state ins..and they cant get certain things done also..just the basic,BASIC cleaning and cheap care....while i have 5 dentists right here in my own town..so, yes, it does change things alot...
