QJ- You were right on the money. Sometimes I swear I think I must be going crazy and you are a multiple personality going on in my head, you know too much! Lol
And, since they apparently had a few beers on the way home (boss accidently stapped hubby in the wrist and felt bad so bought the crew beer) and I had laid a nice guilt trip on him I used the opportunity to introduce them to the geese.

Really need a devil face smiley here. Not a word from him, although he may have drank a few more than I thought because he keeps calling them little duck ducks and talking baby talk to him, but I think all's well on that front. And I need an angel face smiley here.
It's my mad ESP skillz.

This was my first attempt at shipping eggs, so I guess I really *&C#&D Up! For your information, I was't charging anything for the eggs. Not that it makes any difference, and I would have made it right if I had!!!! I TOLD the lady at the Post Office they were hatching eggs, and she didn't mention writing that on the box. Also, I have read several threads where people said the DON'T mark the boxes fragile, etc. because they felt they were treated worse for it. When I received eggs in the mail, they were individually wrapped, but not tightly packed in the box, so they apparently smacked against each other and several were cracked. So I purposely made sure that they were all tightly secure in the cartons (and used the foam cartons for extra padding). I will never package like that again! LESSON LEARNED!!! But I can guarantee you that it wasn't that I didn't give a D A M N how they arrived. I cared very much!

I'm so sorry for people on both ends of situations like this. 3 years with UPS has taught me a lot about packaging, but not everyone has the benefit of my experience. Those packages are handled by machines just as much as they are handled by people. Imagine a 2-acre building that's nothing but a huge autmated pinball machine. Larger sort facilities look like that. Scanner scans barcode, flapper comes out and smacks package onto a different belt.

I used to have to load for a medical school who routinely got cases of live frogs and salamanders. I once got one leaking with a huge footprint on it. It was marked "live frogs" right on the package. So yes, damage comes from blatant idiots as well as machinery.

Tips for almost bulletproof packaging: each item individually wrapped with a cushoined wrap (bubble wrap or that textured cardboard stuff). Fragile items need double-boxed. In the inner box: two inches of packing material around your fragile item. Outer box: two inches of padding between inner box and outer box. Tape well.

I'm so sorry for the disappointment. Im still scared to receive shipped eggs. Too many years in the industry to trust any delivery service to bring me living things in one piece.

one of my chickens is broody. so i put 5 eggs under her.
and im not sure which duck is laying.
actually 2 are. but 1 lays like once a week . the other lays faithfully everyday so far (for almost 2 weeks)

Awesome! Are they fertile?

My ducks have just started laying eggs within the last couple of weeks so I am hoping that their instincts will help them hatch out some babies

. I don't know though keeping eggs warm from the next box doesn't seem the brightest idea...

.... Im not gonna sleep tonight, I just know it lol.

What day is this egg on?

I dreamt last night that something went really awry with my bator. There was a hole in the side of the bator and all the eggs were missing pieces of shell even though it's not nearly hatch time yet. So I grabbed the incy and took it into the bedroom, looked inside and the duckies were alive even though they weren't nearly ready to hatch yet. So I stuck all the broken eggs with half-developed duckies into my shirt to stay warm.

Weirdness. Gotta love the paranoid rookie hatcher dreams.

Goin quackers. Interesting inside info on shipping. But don't be too concerned. If you use reputable sellers, you will get a good fertility rate. I have had very good luck with eggs so far.
