Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

One should be okay with a silkie, just watch them because other chickens can pick on them because of those funny looking hats too.

What about if you just have one? I am hatching some, because my girl got her one silkie, & he wants one of those. I have no intention of keeping a flock of them... but you never know I just might fall in

More pics !
I got those pretty Red/Gold laced Cochin as Well as the Lemon Blues!

Here is a pic of one

Here is a couple more of my new babies !!!

My hubby is awesome, I love the brooders he made built for me, they give them plenty of room
They are 4' x 4' with a removable divider in the middle

My silkie is a brooder mama! She just loves the babies & she stays clean & warm ~ My daughter can go & get her whenever she wants & cuddles with Princess Buttercup on the couch or tea parties in her room ! She will be a warm weather chicken! I wonder how she would take to camping?

Oh good grief. Tea parties? LMAO!

I love those brooder boxes. How tall are they?

Jaz, that is an impressive hatch rate. Congrats! LOVE the brooder boxes!

Hubby just finished our 2nd pen last night for the older duckies and will set it up in room today when I take them out to swim in tub. Hope they like their new home when they get done swimming.

Celtic... you know how we are always talking about how to properly ship eggs? Well.... I had an interesting time opening my packages this morning. Pidgey's eggs were packed in larger box, individually bubble wrapped and them loosely packed in pieces of foam and newspaper. Aurora's eggs were in smaller box, inside egg cartons that were bubble wrapped, with toilet paper on top of eggs.

Pidgey's eggs, all looking perfect:

Aurora's eggs:

I did try to save the one non-broken egg from this carton, because it is a blue egg. I rinsed it in lukewarm water and dried it with a paper towel.
I will be candling these remaining eggs carefully before setting in bator:

from looking and listening to you guyses stories about shipped eggs seems to me the eggs do better when:
A: bubblue wrapped individually.
B: have filling in the egg carton to prevent them from moving.
C: egg carton has filling around it inside the box so it does not move.

i think the safest sounding method i heard was putting the egg carton in a smaller box with filling around it. then that box in a bigger box again with filling.
