and hubby will have a fit about the wasted money!

Hey all! Not going to try to catch up this time. Fridays I don't get home until very late, so I basically have two days to read through.

Kids somehow got a wild hair and knocked over some furniture in my bedroom. They are both in solitary until either: one confesses or it's dinner time. They're only allowed out to go potty. If I hadn't specified, they'd probably potty in their rooms to spite me.

I went and candled my eggs to cheer myself up. I hadn't expected the sudden movement and almost dropped the first one! 11 duck eggs going strong, 3 of 5 chicken eggs with obvious movement, two I can't really tell. Darn brown eggs!

8 more days for chickies, 15 for duckies!

I went to the feed store today and bought a couple week's worth of feed plus some supplies for the chicks because I want to keep them seperate from the duckies (and because they *should* be going under a broody hen 1-2 days after hatch). Had to stock up on feed store stuff so I don't go back again until I have hatchlings. They get their chicks and ducklings on the 9th, my chicks hatch the 11-12th-ish. Got to avoid the impulse buy.

I can see hubby: "I thought you only had 11 duck eggs? How come there's 20 ducklings???"

Marty if you want Ancona eggs wait 3 weeks and I'll send you some for free. (if you can wait that long.) I have to make sure that drakey is doing his job.

I'd love that! Would you like me to send you some eggs afterword? Peking or Khaki or quail?

OMG - I just put quail in lockdown last night, and I came in from putting up fence (a never ending job here - WITH hot wire on top!) and there are 4 little quail hanging out in the hatcher!

They are 2 days early! (The eggs came from Florida, well insulated, and I'm telling you, they were allready at 86 when they arrived in the box, I think they got a little head start on me! I checked my didgital I'm using two other normal thermometers I use a lot, and the difference was very small.

Earliest hatch ever, this ever happen to you?? We've rushed around and made a box brooder with a light bulb for now. I'm having a quail hatching party for my daughters Kindergarden class on tuesday, and I've been worrying about not getting a hatch... LOL

So, I decided to let hubby list two of the ancona hatchlings so he has something to offer now for sale. It's hard to decide which one to part with, but I think it is for the best in the long run. He is working on the ad now.

I got an interesting update regarding my ancona eggs from Aurora. She seemed to appreciate the message and blamed the damaged eggs on USPS. However, Christine (the other buyer) also received broken eggs today.. I replied that (with all due respect) it may be how she is packaging them.

Anconas lay white eggs, cream eggs, green and blue. The Ancona comes in black and white, chocolate and white, blue and white, silver and white, lavender and white and tri-color. They are outstanding layers and put good laying hens to shame.

You can get colored eggs from other breeds of ducks as well though, it's not just an Ancona thing. Some of my assorted colored runner ducks in the past have laid green eggs, white eggs, and one hen even laid a lightly speckled egg.

Although if you ask me Anconas are the best ducks out there........ I will always love my Anconas.

Thats cool. I have an egg focused flocks of regular Peking and Khaki Campbell. My Khakis lay slightly greenish eggs, but they hue is quite pale. My pekings lay pure whites. I saw the pic of the eggs earlier (one looked pink) and the other was A BEAUTIFUL BLUE!

I love my other ducks, and I've got a Peking hen who layes every bit as much as my Khakis, but it would be fun to have a little color variety both in the ducks and the eggs here! Everything I have is either white (the pekings and some quail) or brown (turkeys are chocolate, brown Khakis, and brown corturnix quail). Even now I have little brown quail popping out of their eggs left and right.

I want duck babies with speckles!! (And ducks are my favorite layer, over any other bird, hands down) And if they are good layers, they will fit right in!

I just candled my duck eggs. 13 out of 14 are developing. I'm not giving up on the last one either, it looks like it's just a day behind the others, not like a clear egg, if that makes sense. I think I should be seeing veining in it in another day. 1 of the other fridge eggs just has the heartbeat starting, the other 2 have veins starting. So I think all 4 2 week+ eggs are developing, not bad at all.
