. I lost every single bird in my first hatch and wouldn't wish that on anyone

funny thing is my first hatch was 95% and i didn't do anything by the book and just put them in a had them hatch out, i turn them (but not terribly regularly) and kept the temp the right way other than that, i didn't know what i was doing at all

i didn't even measure humidity!

They are great for that! I used the silkies I used to have (they eventually died of old age) for brooding my ducks, when I first got started on my own. My mom used silkies too. Very sweet little birds, and ya gotta love a furry chicken! Cochins are pretty good setters too.

Were they hatchery or breeder birds? Most of the feed stores here should have a few of them.

Thanks. I hope for you the heating element comes, but if it doesnn't just PM me, and I can paypal you instantly.

Thank you Thank you Thank you (in the noble words of Wilber the pig - charlettes web - goose friend)

Marty, make you a deal, if the heating element doesn't come for the new cabinet bator being made I will sell you the two eggs I collected tonight. They are from Sassy and Sampson and the other is from Pandora and Ricky

Sassy- white curly
Sampson - white smooth

Pandora - white curly
Ricky - white curly

Sassy and Pamdora are from Pips&Peeps and carry spots of color. We are waiting for this falls molt to see if they vanish, or if I should move the, to the splash ganders pen next year.

Ricky is solid white, heavy curl and HWF off spring

sampson has pink legs and wide beautifully twisting back and chap feathers, smooth chest and legs.

Yay! I need a bigger brooder though

I just have a 15 gallon aqurium tank for the runner and BEI. I have a 20 gallon that I need to clean out for the chicks.
BTW, I set 15 farm fresh RIR eggs, and only 5 made it to lockdown. Whats up with that? These were the ones that that dude ordered, but backed out. I found a home for them, but the lady wants me to grow them out first. She also bought my 2 extra drakes

Kev: give in, and go but a few baby ducks

I think my resistance is futile against ducklings. They are just so adorable

. I think Goslings are even worse. I don't think I've ever said no to one

My first ones came from my moms silkies, which came from McMurry hatchery. My second ones (4 years later) came from an auction. The thrid set came from Estes Hatchery in MO. So far, they've all been very broody.

You should go tell Cochin shes a good setter!!
