Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I've got a Buff Orp waiting at the farm to foster my chicks once they hatch.

I asked last night, but that was 400-some pages ago now:
Has anyone had luck slipping new chicks under a broody? I'm going to have to explore the chicken forum and try to find an answer if nobody here has good advice.

In order to keep the littles Certified Organic, they need to be returned to the farm within 48 hours of hatch.

I did it once and stuck them under her an hour or so before they woke up. Oh, and I gave her dummy eggs to sit on a few weeks before. Just watch her closely at first to make sure she's taking care of them and not hurting them.

ATTENTION!!

OPERATION "Little White Lie" is in FULL FORCE.

Hubby: (looking in bator)... "Is this the new chicken?"
Me: "Yes.. (nervous twitching.. get away from the bator.. Oh geez.. he's gonna see.)
Hubby: (puzzled look) "Are those Duck eggs?"
Me: "Yes."
Hubby: "Those are freakin' HUGE!!"
Me: "Mmmm Hmmmm"... (change of subject).

Pekins. Pretty white ducks. Huge pretty white ducks.

Marty- Privett has magpies so you should be able to order them through tsc.

Ducklings can eat medicated feed. Older feed used to be made with an antibiotic they could overdose on, but 95% of newer medicated feed is safe for ducklings. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/587261/can-ducklings-eat-medicated-chick-starter-feed

I used medicated chick starter with my first ducklings. I now use non medicated gamebird starter, but only because it has niacin and I have to have it for my quail anyway, so everyone gets it.

Thast what I use. I didn't know it was ok now, it wasn't like 20 years ago, so I still don't. Besides, I don't have chickens, so I use gamebird for ducks, quail, and turkeys. When the silkies hatch, thats what they'll get.

Tell him you think they are giant pekings! I'm telling you, some of these are twice the size of my normal peking eggs. It looks like I'm hatching small geese!

Hey SM! The goosers are still working. One is closer than the other to externally pipping. Meanwhile I have a Swedish flower hen that hatched. I piped for the other 4 because they were shrink wrapped. (insert huge ***** eye roll here.)

Every time I see it posted on here there's some people who say it's ok, some who say it's not. It was the same thing 7 years ago when I got my first duckling, lol, so I've just always used it as long as it's made with ampro.
