Hubby wants to call my baby silkies K, F and C. Or Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

LOL, Remind him that silkies have only dark meat! (And they are a delicacy, but I wouldn't eat mine!) How about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo? (from the fiery furnace)

He's obviously a bit damp here but you can tell that his bib is quite neat. Although it looks a bit raggy round the edges I'm assuming that that's because he is wet?? It's not ideal that it goes all the way up to his bill but otherwise it it a good size and quite symmetrical. A few extra white feathers underneath the bib but not too much.

Nice orange feet - that's good.

Nice straight bill - that's good too (you don't want a curve to the top line of the bill). Would be good to see his bill coming out of his head at more of a right angle, so less slope towards the ground. Bill is a solid blue with no light or dark patches, so that's good.

Head is pretty good - oval shaped as it should be.

Looks like he is nice and broad in the chest - another good thing.

He has no white on the sides of his bill = good.

So, overall he has a number of very positive features. In the breeding pen the only thing that'd worry me is the bib that goes all the way to the bill. In theory I'd put him with a duck that had no trace of the same fault.

Can't see his wings so not sure about white flight feathers.

He does have the white flight feathers.

They are usually raised in cages, however you can make small cube cages (like 8 x 8 x 2") covered in wire, and just move them around every day. We use something like that for our ducks, and for quail we are feeding out. Males can fight, though. It is corturnix, right? While button quail like the ground, it can only be one male per girl or two

If you free range them, they'll run away and get eaton, unless they are flight trained. You'll just have to shoot them, or trap them, and neither is good. Sorry.

thanks 70. I need to get a picture when its not wet out. Its suppose to be 70 degrees tomorrow here so I need to clean their pen out and I will try to get some better pictures of him and my WH. I knew the white all the way up the bill was a bad feature on him. It looks funny all the way up too. He is about 4 months old now and he is almost as big as my Silver Appleyard.

It's not the worst fault in the world. All birds have faults. You just hope they have some good points to balance them out. He has quite a few good points. I like him. It's great that he is nice and big too - they should be pretty chunky.
