Ok here are my babies that hatched last night and today. Some of them kicked off their shells too early so they are in the "Hospital Area". I am keeping their little cords covered with a damp paper towel so they can absorb it before it dries out.

all resting up

First one born, and he is a BUGGER
Aww, how sweet!

I'll ask in here, but also posted in hatching/incubating forum -
Our school is 'willing' to purchase us an incubator for our chicken/duck hatching project and the owner will take 2 of what we hatch as well.
Good 'affordable' incubator suggestions? The cheaper the better. Won't be used often - maybe a couple times a year max.

I'd ask local 4h if they know of anywhere to rent one. I believe there are places that will lend them to schools.

I'm still catching up too! Us poor Washingtonians always come in at the back end of the convo.

I would love to hatch a dragon. But I think those eggs are the size of a car...

Aww. I want hatchlings again! My babies are still less than a week and I already want more!

Totally!

16 Black East Indies
28 Runner
4 Random from my flock (not sure which girls are laying)
2 Mystery Geese

Exactly. As it is, I'm still working on fixing Pocket's legs and that's frustrating enough. I suspect that this may be a common issue with runners since they stand upright. If the legs are even slightly off....
How's pocket doing?

I would go with the Little Giant still air. It's 40 bucks at Tractor Supply. For what you need it for and the budget you probably have (I've worked in Education), I think it would be the most cost effective and easiest to acquire.

No whole or cracked corn, both load fat reserves onto a goose and they collect fat new the reproductive organs and can lead to reduced fertility.

I know when I bath them they can get soaked to,the skin easily. Never seen anything stating they can sink though. All of ours have the largest plastic baby pools from Walmart.

We feed a mix of the following:
Mazuri waterfowl feed
Black Oil Sunflower Seeds
Whole Oats

They eat very little feed, but must have lots of greens/grazing time as well as clean water to keep feathers looking their best. When they do their fall molts is when the feathers look the absolute best.

They are a very calm, quiet breed and can be easily bullied by other geese and animals. Our African geese are not allowed near the Sebastopols because of this.

Celtic, thank you for telling me this! Cause we have pilgrims too. (or soon will) and i would not want the pilgrims picking on sebs. plus we have to many chickens yards all over the place to make a special goose yard too. My mom says thank you too! We will probably just stick with pilgrims...

Hi Celtic. Thanks for the receipe.

Glad things with hubby are progressing.

How do the seb smooth/curly genes work? As you know, they sebs I got are from curly and straight parents. Is it like the toulouse buff/white thing, or will some be curly, or semi-curly (like the human curly/straight hair gene)?

I guess I could go the goose thread, but since you were allready here, and got me thinking about goosie questioins.... LOL
