Dutch, I'm really sorry to hear about your horse's injury....I hope that he heals up good as new in time.

Utah - those baby ducks are beautiful!! Still amazed at how well you did to get them out.

Chicken (the duckling) went to his new home today. His new owners picked up a girlfriend for him this morning (the girlfriend is named Squeak.....Chicken's actual name is Bubble....so it's Bubble and Squeak). The girlfriend (Squeak) is very very pretty - kind of a blue fawn mallard but perhaps with something else going on. Unfortunately the seller clipped her wings this morning and did a shocking job of it - looks like a dog's brekkie. Anyway, apart from that she is a little stunner. I've received reports this afternoon to say that it was love at first sight between her and Bubble (formerly known as Chicken). Apparently they spent the afternoon strolling round their new backyard together. We are going to visit them tomorrow. I have peas to take and also a box of crickets. Bubble's foster mother, the chicken, was a bit lost after he left. She went and sat on a box and went all grey in the face and droopy and miserable looking. But she seemed to have perked up by the afternoon and picked a fight with my silver drake just to prove that she didn't need no darn ducks for her friends anyhow.

Han, the solo chick, also went to his home today. Another friend was incubating some eggs from the same pen for my friend and a few of those hatched so actually Han is not solo and has some siblings to live with. It was kinda sad to see Han go, as he was a real little character and loved nothing more than hanging out on the computer keyboard as you were trying to type, and especially standing on the touchpad, causing random and rather startling screen effects. But I won't miss the half hour of desperate peeping we went through before he settled down each night.

Today is my hubby's birthday so we have spent the day doing nice stuff. We went riding on Segways round the lake this morning which was jolly good fun, then we went out for lunch. We are about to go out for dinner to a secret location (it's a very nice local restaurant).

Better get my 'going out' gear on and head out the door!!!

Morning all.

Moved new goslings to the big brooder stalls this morning, farm day here so will get pictures to share later on.

Still unless that gosling is a very pale colored goose based on color alone you have a gander. Wait till it is 3 days old to vent sex. Will be easier for you once all the yolk is absorbed completely away. I tend to have to pin their feet under my left thumb the wiggly little boogers they are. If a goose then you might be looking at one of the lighter phased colors. All depends on where the eggs came from and parents colors too.

He hurts bad. He'll be up for an hour or two, then lays down for an hour or so, then he gets back up....all day long. I was outside all day working on breeding pens, and he grazed and napped and hung out with me all day. I was running the circular saw and he was standing behind me resting his chin on my shoulder, lol. The bleeding finally stopped during the night...it seeped through the bandages all day yesterday and was still going when I went to bed around 2am. I was very relieved to see it had stopped when I got up. I'm not re-wrapping it till Sunday...don't want to get it pouring blood again. There was a small severed vessel that kept spurting while the vet cleaned it. He's got a long road to recovery in front of him.

We do attend HA classes (what did you think this thread was)... it's just that none of us is really trying to quit

Morning all.

Today is day 30 and time for some goosies to hatch. I have external pips on an african and a toulouse, and the rest are working hard at the hatching process. I am so excited and stressed, all at the same time!

Thanks again, Cocoa! I am so in love with every last one of those babies. I told hubby last night that if he got to keep all the earlier babies he helped hatch, then I get to keep this entire clutch. He took it well.

well the alfalfa pellets so far are not a big hit with anyone.
they may end up in the barn for the horses and i may just have to get layena pellets are something.
ill give it a couple more days. but i doubt anyone touches them.


in eggy news.
ONE more week till eggs hatch,
and then like 10 more days until other eggs hatch.


and not getting any eggs yesterday set me back a little from where i want to be.
still going to set eggs today. but not as many as i wanted 2.
going to be under 2 dozen.

Morning all-

Dutch - I'm glad to hear the bleeding has stopped, and that he's moving about a bit still, poor boy.

QJ - Just say, I'm keeping these 2, and put 3 in the pen. Thats how we got started. We'll actually I said I was keeping one each of two kinds, and I put 3 of each in two little pens, and just kept taking care of them and not talking about it. He eventually worked it out, but by then I was like "there gonna be laying big duck eggs for your breakfast soon", and since he thinks with his stomach at least a few times a day, we've got loads of the little boogers now.

Celtic - I want to see pics of your farm and island

Iain - I just use my third (the still air) for lockdowns, and its made it easier for me so far, since I've getting eggs any old time.

The good news is they are full grown in about 6 weeks. Only need two weeks of brooding. And they are way cute and tiny. If you want, I'll give you the ebayers name, I totally reccomend him and his eggs. Very healthy youngsters, and sure to please. He also sent excellent infomation, since they are differnent than other quail in a few important areas.
