Wow... I was about to PM you cause I have a few great eggs that pipped but stopped... these are my guys from a few days ago.If seems my pekin eggs are on auto pilot and I can't do anything wrong. The two I would like to save are from my snowy mallard...

No worries sbost. Posting on forum helps to pass the time while these guys do their thing.
Did they external or internal pip then stop? How long ago was the pip. How long ago did it stop?

It may sound gross but sharp kitchen shears. Hold baby in bag, snip neck. Don't look. You'll fell better if you don't look (I did).

This is what I do to cull my quail. It's really hard on me, but is the easiest method for them. I hold them until they are calm, then take pruning shears and lop off their heads as fast as possible.

You are far braver than me.

There is no way I could do it. I wish they had some quick way. When I fed my snakes at college, I had to put the pinky (baby) mice into the freezor, that was the offical way there, and I felt like a murderer. I would rather have just put them in live, and let nature be what it is. I have a personal thing about harming living things. (even spiders)

When I had snakes I'd take the mice and put them in a pillowcase and slam it into a wall or floor as hard as I could. Might work for chicks too. Rats I'd break their neck similar to the broomstick method with a bigger bird, but downscaled to a ruler and the edge of a counter.

He was half dead... Heart beating, but barley breathing, I couldn't take it, so I kinda "smuthered" him ..........

... Was that to cruel? I couldn't take my baby suffering like that

Not cruel at all DG. It was the nicest thing you could do for him I think.

You did what you felt was right. My little Pocket has a new buddy in the hereafter.

You would have felt bad no matter what you decided to do. It's a hard part of caring for animals.

Speaking of pocket, If my little squirrel makes it would you mind if I name her Pocket in honor of your duckling?

Look what we have for dessert!

I need to make some. I like mine with lots of pineapple, and usually use a can of crushed pineapple along with the rings.

Just realized the one I wanted you to see dunked her striped boyish head in the water. Darn it!

Those are adorable! I need to get some mini appleyards.

This is it. I'm done with pics now.. sorry. The baby duckies found the pool that is for decorative purposes.... Oh well. What do you do.

There were all 7 in there before I disrupted their world by (dare I say it) walking in their general direction..big babies.

And here's Fiona.

Can't really tell in the pic but she has a lot of feathers. They are underneath her down. This was yesterday when she found dandelions.

Fiona's darling. Miss my little babies, now I have huge sweet babies.

Latest progress... african pretty much kicked shell off right after I took this pic... this is where I am at now:

Hey Wulf!

We're taking the humans on a picnic at a nearby lake. Wish me luck keeping the 3yr old completely clothed and out of the lake.

Good luck! We are supposed to go to Branson and stay at table rock lake in June. I am dreading it. A week of trying to keep 1 and 2 year old happy and clothed and not drowning sounds like my idea of hell right now. Trying to talk hubby into taking the girls and going and I'll stay home and get a real vacation.

My backwards baby is zipping on his own!!!!! The other two are pushing hard to free their heads. Hopefully it won't be long now!

My ducks are getting friendlier. 3 of the calls will now come get their peas from my hand, along with the geese. The 2 big scaredy cat ducks still won't, but will sneak under my leg and behind my back right next to me to get the peas, as long as I don't make any moves in their direction.

My first baby toulouse hatched out perfect at 11:45am, all by himself!

And here's my african baby in his little brooder pen... 10 hours after hatching:

My next toulouse baby has commenced zipping (even though half the shell is off). The final toulouse baby is resting and gearing up for zipping.
